Registration Error -21 for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 managed devices

Situation

After applying SP1 to Windows 7, (build 7601), registration fails with -21 for unknown Operating System.

Resolution

Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 2008 R2 SP1 are fully supported with ZCM 11.0 and ZCM 10.3.3, however ZCM 11.0 does require the patch below in order to register devices

For ZCM 11: This is fixed in version 11.1 - see KB 7008746 "ZENworks Configuration Management 11.1 - update information and list of fixes" which can be found at https://www.novell.com/support

Workaround: if it is not possible to upgrade to 11.1 at this time, in the interim, Novell has made a Patch  available for testing, in the form of a Field Test File (FTF): it can be obtained at https://download.novell.com/Download?buildid=dKSmfmpsOpA~ as "ZCM 11.0 - Combined patch for: Install action fix (see KB 7005779), Allow Windows 7 SP1 device to register (see KB 7007952) and Authentication Mechanism is being unchecked (see KB 7007776)". This Patch should only be applied if the symptoms above are being experienced, and are causing problems.

This Patch has had limited testing, and should not be used in a production system without first being checked in a test environment. Some Patches have specific requirements for deployment, it is very important to follow any instructions in the readme at the download site. Please report any problems encountered when using this Patch, by using the feedback link on this TID.

This Patch should only be applied if the symptoms above are being experienced, and are causing problems.

Additional Information

Unregistered devices that had previously failed with the -21 error, may need to run "zac cc" before they will be able to properly register after the patch has been applied.
