Environment

Novell ZENworks 11 Configuration Management Support Pack 1 - ZCM 11 SP1

Situation

After restoring an image that has ZENworks agent on it, the serial number of the newly imaged device may report an invalid serial number.

Resolution

Novell has provided a fix in the form of a System Update, and an updated ZCM 11.1a ISO file - see TID 7009257 Agent update 1 for ZENworks 11.1 for details of how to obtain and deploy these items.  The fix allows zac fsg -d to remove the serial number from cache.  NOTE:   This does not fix existing images or workstations where the serial number is already in cache.  The use of the new fsg -d must be done prior to taking the image.

Workaround:

See https://www.novell.com/communities/node/3375/zcm-imaging-installing-zen-adaptive-agent-image for a way to take an image with ZENworks agent for the most clean approach.

Additional Information

In 11.1, the serial number of the device is stored in the cache.  When an image containing this information is restored to another device, that device will report the same serial number as the original.
