GroupWise Client will crash after providing authentication credentials

Environment

Novell GroupWise 7
Windows 2003 Server

Situation

Symptoms:
1.Launch the GroupWise Client
2.Select Online Mode
3. Provide authentication information
OR
1. Launch GroupWise Client.
2. Select Remote Mode
3. Provide the path to the local drive.

Starting the GroupWise Client may report the following Error:
Cannot start GroupWise client ERROR unhandled win32 exception occurred in grpwise.exe

or

The GroupWise client authentication window will vanish without any error message.

Resolution

Turn off DEP (Data Execution Prevention).

1. Go to Properties in the My Computer shortcut and click the Advanced Performance tab
or
Open Control panel > System > Advanced > Performance.

2. Click the tab and choose the top option, "Turn on DEP for Windows system files only.
