Dom0 network connectivity lost

This document (3250346) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10

Situation

In the Xen Dom0 ("host") environment, the network settings appears normal, but a Broadcom ethernet interface (driven by the bnx2 driver) stops working(for example, the gateway can no longer be pinged) when a DomU ("guest") is in use or is rebooted.

Resolution

Update to Service Pack 1 or newer.

Additional Information

As of Service Pack 1, the kernel includes an updated Broadcom driver which addresses this issue by working around a firmware bug with the Broadcom NIC.

Refer to TID 7000387 - How to update to SLES/SLED 10 SP2 or TID 3509359 - How to update to SLES/SLED 10 SP1 for details on the update procedure to bring an installation to a newer Service Pack level.
