The iPrint Client for Vista version 5.04 is available from download.novell.com.
The iPrint Client for Vista (versions 5.02 and 5.04) can print only to OES 2 or NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 7 servers. The Broker and Driver Store must also be hosted on those platforms. Microsoft Hotfixes KB932206 and KB941542 are required on the Windows Vista machine before installing the iPrint Client for Windows Vista.
- KB941542 can be obtained from this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941542/en-us
- KB932206 can be obtained by calling Microsoft Support at 1-800-936-4900 or
requesting the KB patch from support.microsoft.com/oas
Resolution
a. The iPrint Client for Vista that ships with OES2 and NW65 SP7 (version 5.02) does not support:
- Printer Driver Profiles
- iPrint Client Management (iCM)
- iCapture
The iPrint Client for Vista available from download.novell.com (version 5.04) supports iPrint Client Management.
b. Installing iPrint printers using IE:
Vista's implementation of Internet Explorer requires the user to run the browser in Administrator mode to install iPrint printers. To "Run As Administrator", right click the Internet Explorer shortcut and choose "Run As Administrator". Installing iPrint printers using Firefox on Vista does not have this requirement.
Additional Information
TID 3447977: Novell iPrint Install has stopped working" on Windows Vista
- This issue is resolved in the 5.04 version of the iPrint Client for Vista.
TID 3929179: The Vista (32 bit) and Vista (64 bit) tabs are not available within iManager
TID 3536263: Problems uploading Vista print drivers to the Broker or Driver Store
Workaround for those without OES 2 or NetWare 6.5 SP7:
The following steps will enable Windows Vista users to print to an iPrint printer hosted on a NetWare (pre-NetWare 6.5 SP7) or OES 1 Linux server.
1. Go to Microsoft's Add Printer Wizard
2. Choose Network printer
3. Click the "Stop" button to stop the wizard from scanning for network printers.
4. Select 'The printer that I want isn't listed'
5. Select the first 'shared printer by name' box.
6. Type the following URL -
http://[print server ip address]/ipp/[printer name]
7. Select the appropriate driver.
8. Finish the installation.
If your iPrint printer is SSL enabled (secure iPrint printing), then use the URL of:
http://[print server ip address]/ipps/[printer name]
Put in your iPrint userid and password (no context required) in the Vista authentication box.
Limitations with workaround posted above:
User based -The printer created in the manner described above is done from the account of the user who installed the printer. If that user's password changes, then the printer needs to be re-installed.
Spaces -The above steps will not work if the Printer Agent has a space in the name.
