Identity Manager Driver for Health Level 7 (HL7)

Overview

Identity Manager Driver for Health Level 7 (HL7) is a standalone driver that synchronizes eDirectory data to an HL7 Server. This driver offers hospitals a way to easily extend resources to staff. (HL7 is an ANSI-accredited specification that many healthcare applications use to transfer clinical and administrative data.)

Identity Manager Driver for HL7 enables you to integrate information about staff in HL7-enabled applications with information in Novell® eDirectory™ and other Novell applications. For example, when you create, modify, or delete a staff account in an HR system connected to eDirectory, this driver will notify a connected HL7 server of the change.

By helping to eliminate redundant data entry across multiple applications, Identity Manager Driver for HL7 reduces network management and support costs. Furthermore, because Identity Manager Driver for HL7 provides HL7 applications access to real-time information, this driver offers increased convenience to users and safety to the hospital.

Identity Manager Driver for HL7 can also extend the value of Identity Manager-based provisioning systems. Most hospital systems using HL7-enabled applications will be interested in using a separate HR system for data entry, and staff accounts will synchronize from that system into eDirectory, and from there into the HL7-enabled applications. This driver can also be configured to synchronize data back to eDirectory for hospitals that perform data entry or editing at the HL7 application level.
