| Because the Novell ZENworks Configuration Management architecture is radically different from the traditional Novell ZENworks Desktop Management architecture, you cannot perform an in-place upgrade of ZENworks Desktop Management to Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management. However, Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management provides a set of tools, called the ZENworks Migration Utility, to help you migrate much of the configuration data from previous Novell ZENworks products. In this section, you become familiar with the ZENworks Migration Utility and the process for migrating a traditional ZENworks environment to Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management. Before migrating data to Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management, we recommend running pre-migration database queries that list objects that might cause problems during migration or might need additional work after migration. You install the ZENworks Migration Utility, and then use the utility to migrate the ZENworks Desktop Management objects on the DA-ZDM server to the Novell ZENworks Configuration Management zone (DA-ZONE) on the DA-ZCM server. The last task in the migration process is to use ZENworks Desktop Management to push out the ZENworks Adaptive Agent. | With Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 SP1, Novell has released an "ID Transfer" feature as part of the Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 Migration Tools. This new feature allows you to do what the former Migration Wizard did, which is allow a destination server to take the place of your source server. This new tool Transfers your source to an Novell Open Enterprise Server2 Linux destination, something the Migration Wizard did not support. The great thing about this new tool, is it not only does what the Migration Wizard did migrating your eDirectory, and data, but it also allows you to migrate several other services in the process.
