This class is designed to give you a solid overview of the imaging feature and its capabilities in ZENworks Configuration Management (ZCM). This combination lecture and hands-on class will teach you how to use the various types of image bundles and hardware rules in ZCM to repair broken workstations and multicast images to many machines at one time. You will also learn how to install the new high performance NTFS driver into the ZCM Imaging Distro.

Prerequisites: Experience managing Windows workstations in a network environment, and an understanding of imaging technology in general. Experience using the ZENworks Control Center is preferred but not required.

This lecture and hands-on session will teach how to create Windows 7 base images that can be applied to multiple hardware types. You will learn details of the Microsoft Windows Setup Process and the Microsoft tools (WSIM and SYSPREP) used to configure Windows Setup. This methodology will use an "image stack" approach and ZCM imaging to deploy a sysprepped Windows 7 base image and the appropriate hardware specific add-on images.

Prerequisites: An understanding of ZCM terminology and architecture as well as having experience using the ZENworks Control Center.

Students will learn in detail about the various processes that provide the imaging function of ZENworks 10 & 11 Configuration Management, and learn to troubleshoot those processes. You will learn how to generate and read imaging log files and go through labs that demonstrate how to troubleshoot the three distinct phases of a PXE-based ZENworks imaging operation.

Prerequisites: Experience managing Windows workstations in a network environment, and an understanding of ZCM terminology and architecture. The student should have attended the "Fundamentals of ZENworks Configuration Management Imaging" course or have the equivalent experience.

This session is a combination of lecture and hands-on exercises designed to show you how the Novell Endpoint Security Suite will prevent your company from being a hot news item due to a data breach. You will learn how to configure the Full-Disk Encryption and Endpoint Security Management capabilities of NEPS to protect confidential business information stored on user's workstations from being accessed by unauthorized users or from being copied to unencrypted devices.

Prerequisites: An understanding of ZCM terminology and architecture as well as having experience using the ZENworks Control Center.

The functionality of Endpoint Security Management (ZESM) has been integrated into the architecture of ZENworks 11 Configuration Management. This session will focus on how Endpoint Security Management can be used to secure your company's workstations. This session will provide an extensive discussion of the product's features. The hands-on exercises will teach you how to use the ZENworks Control Center (ZCC) to configure and publish Security Policies that will control access to USB ports and removable media devices, provide for data encryption and application control, and demonstrate the location awareness capability of ZENworks 11 Configuration Management.

"In this session you will focus on how to make your applications portable by using Novell's ZENworks Application Virtualization. This session will focus on features that make virtual applications portable. This includes utilizing the spoonreg utility and the "Publish to USB" feature of the ZENworks Application Virtualization product.

Attendees will focus on how to publish their applications to USB drives. This includes registering the applications with the Host OS so that file extensions and associations are properly configured.

This session will focus on upgrade procedures from ZENworks Configuration Management version 10.x to ZENworks 11 Configuration Management. Attendees will leave understanding the requirements for completing a successful upgrade. Understanding the processes that occurs during the upgrade process is important for a successful upgrade, as well as understanding how objects in the zone are migrated. We will also review some of the potential issues when dealing with ZENworks Configurations Management System Update capabilities.

Prerequisites: Experience with ZENworks Configuration Management, and a need to move from version 10.x to ZENworks 11 Configuration Management

This session will describe how to create a ZCM Bundle to distribute the GroupWise 2012 Windows client using ZENworks Configuration Management 11.

This session introduces you to the tools and logs available to troubleshoot problems within ZENworks 11 Configuration Management. You also examine several key components and processes that are useful in troubleshooting core components of ZENworks Configuration Management.

• Identify the key log files and what types of problems they are useful in helping troubleshoot

This session will be presented by ZENworks Senior Product Manager Jason Blackett.

Jason will provide discussions and demonstrations of the new product features in the ZCM 11 SP2 release. This course introduces the new Full Disk Encryption and Macintosh Management capabilities of ZENworks 11 SP2 and will delve into the dozens of smaller features that have been implemented to make your life easier.

This course will also recap the major architectural changes between ZENworks 10 and ZENworks 11.

Finally, Jason will provide you with an inside look at the ZENworks roadmap. This course includes hands on with the new features of ZENworks 11 SP2 and discusses the roadmap for ZENworks Configuration Management.

Over the last several years Macintosh OS-X devices have become extremely popular in both the enterprise and in academic institutions. ZENworks 11 SP2 provides you with a power set of capabilities for managing these devices as they appear in your environment. In this course you will learn what capabilities are available and how to use those capabilities to ensure that your users have a consistent experience when they are using Macintosh devices. This course includes information on:

This course will look at real world examples of how to use the ZENworks system to efficiently deliver applications to your users. The lab will focus on using the information you learn to deploy the Microsoft Office 2010 application via ZENworks to your Windows workstations or the LibreOffice application to your Linux workstations.

Prerequisites: Students should understand the basics of Bundle Management with ZENworks Configuration Management.

ZENworks Reporting Server represents the future for custom and predefined reporting for the Novell ZENworks family of products. Running on SAP's Business Objects Enterprise engine, ZRS presents the ZENworks database through over 1,600 reporting objects that may be combined to create ad hoc custom reports. Reports may be saved for later use, including configuration of runtime parameters.

This session discusses the installation of ZENworks Reporting Server as part of ZENworks. After a tour of the ZRS Universe – the collection of objects from which reports are built – we'll build some simple reports using data from various features of ZENworks. We'll also examine features of Business Objects that allow simple reports to be manipulated into graphs and other presentation formats.

Prerequisites: Students must have an understanding ZCM terminology and architecture and have experience using the ZENworks Control Center.

ZENworks Asset Management has been part of the ZENworks family of products since 2005. In 2010, asset management is more important than ever, with benefits ranging from cost savings through software usage analysis and adjustments to purchasing behavior, to managing the threat of audits, and adherence to regulatory and corporate standards.

The session starts with an overview of software asset management and why it is important to any enterprise. We'll look at the ZENworks inventory, with particular attention to analyzing your software inventory and adding local software signatures to fill any gaps. Software usage data from ZENworks Asset Management may be used to save money fast by looking at where software is being used – or, more importantly, isn't being used – and making changes to purchasing practices. We'll discuss license management features and how they can help you avoid an audit or be prepared to make the auditors go away fast and happy. Finally, document and contract management features can help you with record keeping and staying on top of lease and other renewal deadlines.

Prerequisites: Students must have an understanding ZCM terminology and architecture and have experience using the ZENworks Control Center.

ZENworks Configuration Management is a complex software application than benefits from thoughtful planning prior to and during the implementation in an enterprise. Based on “System Planning, Deployment and Best Practices Guide” for ZENworks version 11 as well as practical field experience, this session will focus on evaluating the business and IT environment into which ZENworks will be deployed, the ZENworks architecture, building a design and documentation, and tips for an efficient deployment of the ZENworks infrastructure and agents. We'll also discuss steps to be taken after the software is in place, including disaster recovery best practices and tuning the implementation.

This session will be lecture/demo only. There will not be any hands-on labs.

Prerequisites: Students should have some knowledge of their enterprise layout (locations, number of devices, network topology). Students would benefit from some understanding of ZCM terminology and architecture in advance.

This course will introduce Novell Service Desk with focus on Incident Management. Novell Service Desk foundations are based on ITIL v3 for IT Service Management.

This Course is meant to introduce the Novell Service Desk product and basic ITIL v3 Service management concepts. Once this course is completed the student will be able to Install, configure Novell Service Desk and be able to implement the Incident Management component of Novell Service Desk, from incident creation to incident resolution.

Prerequisites: It is highly recommended that student will have attended the ITIL v3 foundations class.

This session will focus on the three main methods for migrating from OES NetWare® to OES 11. The strategies include using the miggui or command line to perform a consolidation migration or a Transfer ID migration as well as using custom scripts to perform an in-place migration.

In today's IT environment, many of Novell's NetWare customers are migrating to Novell Open Enterprise Server Linux for their data center needs. The Bridging NetWare Skills to Novell Open Enterprise Server for Linux session introduces students familiar with NetWare to Novell Open Enterprise Server for Linux. This course is designed to answer the question, "I know how to administer NetWare, how do I do the same tasks on OES for Linux?" The course consists modules that take the student through the process of transitioning NetWare skills to Linux equivalent tasks. The session will use hands-on tasks to compare and contrast similar administrative functions on both NetWare and Linux servers.

Prerequisites: You should have a fairly good working knowledge of the NetWare console screens and working in a Linux BASH environment.

In this session you will take a comprehensive look at Novell Storage Services (NSS) and discover the nature of the relationship between NSS and EVMS and the new NLVM found in OES11. We will focus the time on learning to use tools such as ravsui, verify, re-build and NSS scan.

Prerequisites:  A good understanding of NSSMU, iManager and OES2 Linux is required

Novell Filr is an enterprise-grade file syncing and sharing service that provides secure access to your files anytime, anywhere from a computer or a mobile device connected to the Internet. This session will introduce students to the new technology and provide hands on experience with the product's features.

Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for this course. This session is a product introduction.

This session will cover topics and strategies to make your Installation, Configuration, Administration, and Troubleshooting easier. Some of the things covered will be Timesync, System disk partitioning, LUM, and much more.

Novell iPrint support engineers have years of iPrint customer perspective. These support engineers have taken advantage of the flexibility inherent with Linux to create customer driven iPrint scripts. This class covers:

• iPrint Info Gathering Tool
  • Gathers iPrint-related information to help in troubleshooting iPrint issues.
• Printer Driver Auto Association Tool for iPrint
  • Allows you to associate print drivers to all iPrint printers of a specific manufacturer or make/model quickly and easily.
• iPrint Notification Script
  • Detects when the Print Manager becomes unavailable. Notification options include text messaging or email.
• iPrint Duplication Script
  • Reads an OES Linux iPrint server configuration and replicates it to another OES Linux server. This can be run as a migration or to create a fault tolerant backup solution. See TID 7008502 for more information on this tool.
• iPrint Sync Script
  • If two OES Linux iPrint servers with similar configurations exist, run this script to synchronize changes between the two.

Prerequisites: The student should have extensive iPrint management experience and familiarity with Linux commands.

This course looks at Linux User Manager from the support perspective. First, the need for LUM enablement on OES is covered and how LUM is configured in an OES environment. Then, students will learn about issues that affect LUM functionality from the eDirectory side as well as from the Linux side. On the eDirectory side, issues such as LUM schema extensions, and correct LDAP configuration are covered. On the Linux side, issues such as Pluggable Authentication Module configuration and LDAP communication are covered. Upon completion of the course, students will understand the need for LUM and how it functions in the eDirectory / Linux OES relationship.

Prerequisites: Fundamental eDirectory knowledge (NetWare or Linux) and some OES exposure. Linux experience is helpful but not absolutely required.

This session will cover what DSfW is, reasons for using it, how to install it, and what to look out for before and during the install. We would do a hands on install of DSfW into an existing tree and join a workstation to the domain. All along talk about troubleshooting sections of the install and troubleshooting workstations joining the domain.

Prerequisites:

In this session we will install a second DC, configure Cifs on another OES server, and set up a cross forest trust to an AD domain. Before each section we will discuss in depth the reasons we are doing it, how to do it, and what to look out for during the configuration and install.

Identity Manager 4 released a new content framework to better help customers manager their Identity Manager deployments. Designer today is undoubtedly the “King” of all Identity Tools. The new Package Manager framework that is now part of Designer is going to take it to the next level of tools from Novell. This session will focus on three areas:

1. How to administer the new Package Manager features that are now part of Designer.
2. How to create packages with custom content and easy re-use for new deployments.
3. How to upgrade your existing drivers to the new Content Package Framework.

After you complete this course you should have a very good understanding of Package Manager and how you should be utilizing it in your environment today. This session consists of lecture and hands on. In the hands on portion of this session you will use the information you learned in the three focus areas above.

Prerequisite: This session is dependent upon that you have prior knowledge of the Designer tool, especially if you're going to be creating new content and upgrading existing drivers.

In this session students will get an in-depth knowledge of the SAML protocol, and the various interfaces. Using this knowledge, the student will perform a consulting project and establish a federation between NetIQ Access Manager's SAML Identity Server and a well know SaaS provider, building appropriate metadata entries and configuring the SAML SSO settings on both the NAM and SaaS providers. Students will then finish up having to debug a SAML lab where users are unable to Federate between trusted providers.

Prerequisites: This session will review the SAML protocol, it would make the session easier to understand if you review SAML before attending.

Learn how to avoid initial problems using proactive best practices, and to troubleshoot Access Manager 3.1 problems should they occur. This session covers troubleshooting tools and key log files for the most commonly reported problems. We will also review new product features from the latest release of Access Manager.

In this session we are going to look at the new security and resource model in Role Based Provisioning Module 3.7/4.01. You will understand how the Role Based Provisioning Module (RBPM) provides a convenient way for end users to request the resources they need. This session will also focus on how administrators implement and configure resources using entitlements and then binding them to roles. The features that we are going to review are the following:

• Roles
• The domain security model
• Security models fine grained permissions
• How to properly set your security model trustees
• Security model teams and delegated administration
• Resource Model using Entitlements

After you complete this session you will have better understanding on how to properly define permissions in the Role Based Provisioning Module (RBPM). We will also look at the current best practices around the trustee model so users aren't getting access to critical operations. This session consists of lecture and hands on portion. In the hands on portion you will get a chance to review the concepts taught in this session.

This course starts with an overview of the architecture of Sentinel, then moves to installation and working with the Sentinel appliances.

This course shows how to log into the Sentinel web user interface in addition to the Sentinel Control Center. It discusses how to view in real time what events are happening in an enterprise environment and how to take action on those events.

Prerequisites: This session is geared to security persons not familiar with Sentinel.

Are you confused about all this Entitlement hoopla? Entitlement this and Entitlement that! What is with all the Entitlement talk with Identity Manager over the past few years. Entitlements are not going away and are being used more heavily. This session will set you perfectly straight without confusion on how to effectively use Entitlements in your Identity Manager infrastructure. This session consists of lecture and a hands on portion. In the hands on portion you will create an entitlement including defining the policies required to carry out the requirements of the entitlement. You then use the entitlement with the 3 agents (Entitlements Service Driver, User Application Provisioning Workflow, and RBPM Resource Model) available to you in Identity Manager and the Roles Based Provisioning Module to understand how they are applied.

Prerequisites: Experience with Identity Manager policies and Roles Based Provisioning workflows using Designer is recommended.

This session introduces you to the features of KVM virtualization in SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 SP2. Installation and management of KVM virtualization hosts and machines using Libvirt is covered.

In this session you configure some of the new and updated features of and cluster resources in the SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension SP2 such as redundant SBD, etc.

In this session you install and configure an open source identity server using OpenSSL, Open LDAP and Kerberos. You then configure a Linux server as a client to the identity server.

In this session you use an open source identity server based on OpenSSL, Open LDAP and Kerberos to provide centrally managed secure authentication and session encryption for Linux services such as NFSv4 and SSH.

Most of us use VMware Workstation locally and think of ESX or XEN for multi-user and servers. If you are willing to look a little deeper, you'll find Workstation options you might not expect. We'll crack open a few text files and learn to hand craft a linked clone, make 4 VMs with the disk space of 2, explain the dreaded ""Moved or Copied"" question and much more. We'll learn to use a networking trick that has saved us thousands of hours and hundreds of thousands of dollars. ESX is right for some jobs but you'll find new ways to save time and money with Workstation.

Of course, the more VMs you have the more you need remote access for them and your users. There are some great options out there and many of them are free. We'll look how to manipulate the built in remote control, FreeNX and variants of VNC.

We'll focus on Linux as the back end but most of the concepts work with Windows and OS X too.

On February 3, 2011 the last /8 IPv4 blocks were handed to the continental Regional Internet Registries. Despite this, IPv4 will still be with us for some time, but IPv6 will certainly be with us in the future.

In this session, you learn IPv6 basics and how to configure IPv6 in Linux. It will point you ways to begin testing and using IPv6 even if your ISP does not offer it yet.

Prerequisites: Experience with SUSE Linux Enterprise is required

In this session you will be given a comprehensive administrative scenario to solve on two virtual machines running SLES 11. The scenario will be based on the CLP curriculum.

The instructor will be around to help you along as needed in the first three hours, while the last hour will be devoted to presenting a sample solution to the task.

Based on the performance of candidates in the CLP 11 Practicum Exam, some topics seem to be more difficult for the candidates than others.

One of these is Bash Scripting.

This session will cover steps to take and pitfalls to avoid when developing a script for a giving task. It will cover how to decide on the elements to be included in a script, the actual writing of the script and dealing with the inevitable mistakes you are going to make while writing a script.

Completely aside from the CLP 11 exam, scripting is a Linux skill you do not want to miss, as it can make your life as an administrator so much easier.

Based on the performance of candidates in the CLP 11 Practicum Exam, some topics seem to be more difficult for the candidates than others.

One of these is NFSv4 and another is the configuration of SyslogNG.

This session will cover the conceptual differences between NFSv3 and NFSv4 and the differences in the configuration between version 3 and 4 on the server as well as on the client.

Regarding SyslogNG, it will explain how to create and modify filter, destination and log statements to dispel any confusion that might exist in these areas.

Completely aside from the CLP 11 exam, NFSv4 and SyslogNG will help you to administer these aspects of Linux more efficiently.

Based on the performance of candidates in the CLP 11 Practicum Exam, some topics seem to be more difficult for the candidates than others.

One of these is the Apache configuration and another is the configuration of Samba.

This session will cover the elements of the Apache2 and the Samba configuration as covered in the CLP 11 curriculum.

Completely aside from the CLP 11 exam, this will allow you to create simple setups of Apache2 and Samba you can use in your environments.
