How Do I Certify?

1. Certification Options

Novell offers a variety of certifications, each with its own advantages.

Novell Certified Linux Administrator: The Novell CLA is a new certification and provides the day-to-day administration of installed SUSE Linux Enterprise Server networks.

Novell Certified Linux Desktop Administrator: The CLDA is designed for candidates who are familiar with Windows Desktop (e.g. XP) and desire in-depth knowledge on tasks a Linux system administrator performs on SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10.

Novell Certified Administrator: The NCA certification is designed for network administrators and other network management professionals who have little or no experience with Novell products and services. It provides a high-level view of the Novell products and services (with a particular focus on Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 and Open Enterprise Server for Linux).

Novell Certified Engineer: The NCE is designed to assist the CNE Community migrate their skills and knowledge to Linux in an Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 deployment.

Novell Certified Linux Professional 10: The Novell CLP 10 certification validates the skills needed to successfully administrate SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 in the data center.

Novell Certified Linux Engineer 10: This certification proves engineer-level skills for managers or architects of enterprise networks based on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10.

Certified Novell Administrator (CNA): The CNA certification prepares the candidate to provide day-to-day administration of installed Novell networking products, specifically NetWare and Novell eDirectory.

Certified Novell Engineer (CNE): The CNE is the IT industry's leading certification on networking and troubleshooting, specifically on NetWare and Novell eDirectory.

Certified Novell Instructor (CNI): Is the world's most recognized technical instructor certification. Choose your area of expertise—Linux, NetWare or both.

Novell Academic Instructor (NAI): The NAI certification allows the instructor to teach certified courses at authorized Novell Academic Training Partner or Novell Technical Institute locations.

Novell PartnerNet Technical Specializations: Participants in the PartnerNet Solution Provider program can specialize in solution areas (Linux, Security and Identity, Systems and Resource and Workgroup) for specific expertise.

2. Study Options

Evaluate your current level of knowledge for the Linux Certifications, and other assessments, with a Technical Skills Assessment (TSA).

3. Test to Certify

Passing the required test(s) will award Novell Certifications.

Practicum Tests for the Linux Certifications. The Practicum requires completing technical scenarios and applying knowledge in a real-world setting.

Standard Tests for the CNA or CNE Certifications. Standard tests consist of computer-based point-and-click, matching, fill-in-the-blank and multiple-choice questions.

The costs for the tests differ depending on the area of the world you live. For example, Standard Tests in the US cost $125 and the Practicum costs $195.

From time to time, Novell Training Services may require you to take an exam to keep current on the latest solutions and technologies. These exams are considered a Continuing Certification Requirement (CCR), which keep your skills up-to-date and keep your certification valuable in the marketplace.

4. Sign the agreement

Each candidate must submit the Novell Training Services Certification Agreement before certification can be awarded. Take advantage of submitting the agreement when you test. Or the agreement can be viewed and downloaded and the signature form returned to Novell.
