Going forward, the Novell Certified Engineer (NCE) will focus on the skill set needed to run Linux, virtual NetWare machines, and the services running on both. In these two courses (Implementing Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 for Linux and Deploying Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 for Linux), you will learn how to do the following tasks:

  • Install a new Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 for Linux server.
  • Perform basic server administration of an Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 for Linux server.

Current Certified Novell Engineers (CNE) will find these two courses contain valuable information necessary for them to transfer their NetWare skills over to Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 for Linux as well as prepare them for the Novell Certified Engineer (NCE) exam.

Course Prerequisites

Before using this course bundle, you should be a current NetWare 6 or Open Enterprise Server NetWare CNE, or have equivalent experience with the NetWare 6, NetWare 6.5, or Novell Open Enterprise Server for NetWare product. This includes strong experience with the following: NetWare 6 or later server administration, Novell Storage Services (NSS), Novell Client Protocol (NCP), Novell eDirectory, Novell Certificate Server, DNS/DHCP, Novell iFolder, Novell iPrint, NetStorage, Novell iManager, Novell iMonitor, Novell Remote Manager.

Course Outline

This self-study bundle contains the following courses: Implementing Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 for Linux (Course 3089) and Deploying Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 for Linux (Course 3090).

 

The Implementing Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 for Linux course (3089 v3) helps you get the hands-on experience you need with the Linux platform so you can begin to implement Novell Open Enterprise Server (OES) 2 services. The first five sections of the course essentially focus on the OES 2 services--installing SLES 10 SP2 and OES 2 SP1, and using iManager and other familiar tools to configure and administer services such as NCP, NSS, and Domain Services for Windows. You will install several OES 2 services, use the start and stop scripts for these services, and view their configuration and log files. The last five sections of the course focus on the basics of the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server platform (SLES 10 SP1).

 

The Deploying Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 for Linux course (3090 v2) prepares NetWare CNEs to migrate their NetWare/OES services to an OES 2 for Linux server. In addition, this course covers more advanced deployment topics such as support, patches and upgrades, troubleshooting, etc.

Course Testing Information

Exam 050-709 is a practicum exam. Passing this exam results in the NCE certification.
