Controlling Container Access for eGuide Users

November 21, 2007 1:41 am

A Forum reader recently asked:

“I have an issue where I want to allow users from a certain containers to
authenticate and use eGuide while preventing users from a different container from using it.

I can allow one container to login (and prevent all others) by filling in the Authentication Search Root field in the LDAP Data Source setting. I cannot allow more than one, though, and that is what I would like to do. Any ideas?”

And here’s the response from Niklas Ekstedt …

AFAIK, you can specify an Authentication Search Root and then if just the Search Root container or subcontainers as well should be searched. Depending on your tree layout, you may not be able to prevent the containers you want.

There may be a couple of things to prevent certain containers from being

1) Remove the rights from the LDAP Proxy User to the containers not to be included.

2) You can create a new container and set that as your Authentication
Search Root. Then you would populate this container with alias objects for the users who should be able to use eGuide.
