This article explains the steps to integrate Micro Focus Filr 3 into SUSE Manager 3.x for managing and patching. You need experience in:
- Filr 3 Administration
- SUSE Manager Administration
- Micro Focus Customer Center
Step 1) Synchronize Patches from NCC into the local SUSE Manager
To synchronize the patches from NCC you need the “Mirror Channel” username and password.
SUSE Manager does not know anything about how to download the Patches from NCC, we need to create a Repository in SUSE Manager.
At first, we need to create a Repository for Filr.
Go to Software -> Manage Software Channels -> Manage Repositories and select “Create Repository”.
For the Repository URL take the username and password from NCC and the Repository Type is “yum” and create the Repository.
Repository URL: https://user:firstname.lastname@example.org/repo/$RCE/Filr-3.0-Updates/sle-11-x86_64/
Step 2) Create a Channel “Software Channel”
To create a Software Channel, go to Software -> Manage Software Channels -> Overview and select “Create Channel” and create a Channel like this example.
Hint: Don’t select any Parent Channel.
Step 3) Assign the Repository to the Filr Channel
After creating the Filr Channel, now assign the Filr Repository to this channel.
Select Software -> Manage Software Channels -> Overview -> “your Filr Channel” -> Repository and select your Filr 3 Update Channel and press “Update Repository”.
Step 4) Download Patches into SUSE Manager Repository
Now you can download all Patches and create a scheduler.
Select Software -> Manage Software Channels -> Overview -> “your Filr Channel” -> Repository -> Sync.
You can find Log-Files under /var/log/rhn/reposync.
Step 5) Install the “spacewalk-client” on the Filr Appliance
Create an “Activate Key” for the Filr 3 Update Channel and create a bootstrap file to install the spacewalk-client on the Filr 3 Appliance.
Hint: Enable the SSH Service on the Filr Appliance to install the spacewalk-client.
Step 6) Install the available Updates on the Filr Appliance
Login into the Micro Focus Filr Appliance Administration via https://<your appliance ip>:9443 and go to “Online Update”.
The “Register Online Update Service” check only for SMT or Micro Focus Customer Center, but not for SUSE Manager.
You can ignore this message and press “Cancel”
Now, you can select the latest Patch and press “Update Now”.
Step 7) Finished
If you like a full integration, please vote for it.
