BS2014

Hundreds of Novell customers from across the world gathered in Salt Lake City Nov. 2-5 for our successful BrainShare conference. The go-to conference for network professionals who specialize in areas such as endpoint management, collaboration, file and print management and identity management, our annual BrainShare conference offers a full range of in-depth product training and demos as well as key sessions. This year’s conference covered important topics such as:

  • Designing and deploying Novell ZENworks software.
  • Integrating GroupWise and Exchange software during a merger and acquisition.
  • Using Vibe to solve collaboration challenges.

In addition to these general sessions, the show also gave attendees the chance to hear two special keynote addresses, one from President and General Manager of Attachmate and Novell Kathleen Owens and President and General Manager of NetIQ Jay Gardner.

Here are some of the key takeaways from BrainShare 2014:

Micro Focus Merger Means Big Things Ahead: A highlight of the conference came when Owens interviewed Executive Chairman of Micro Focus Kevin Loosemore. As many of you know, The Attachmate Group, owners of Novell, NetIQ, Attachmate and SUSE, will be soon merging with Micro Focus International of Newbury, England.

Since the announcement of the merger, customers and investors have responded strongly. In fact, Micro Focus’s stock immediately increased—meaning exciting things are on the way for the company. What does the merger mean for NetIQ and Novell customers? As Loosemore explained, right now many IT professionals are struggling to integrate all of the complex devices they have accumulated with new technologies like the cloud and mobile. Micro Focus will help provide more choices and opportunities for integrating those technologies, which will increase their value considerably.

Novell Announces New Partnership: BrainShare attendees were treated to a special announcement as Novell released a new strategic partnership with GWAVA, providers of compliance, security, eDiscovery and archiving for electronic devices and a Diamond Sponsor of BrainShare 2014. This partnership will enhance the entire Novell product portfolio, providing a greater amount of comprehensive solutions and options.

New Attachmate Product Unveiled: Adding to the list of announcements was Attachmate’s release of its newest product, Reflection, designed for UNIX, iOS and Android devices. Reflection will be the first enterprise-grade SSH client for mobile devices on LINUX and UNIX systems. This product will give IT administrators the ability to complete business-critical tasks over mobile devices from any location.
