For months now, I have wanted to reach out to many of you and say a sincere thank you! Thousands of you helped to inform the new Microfocus.com and SUSE.com sites that we built over the last year. We appreciate your time and willingness to engage with us in this effort!
We purposely invested a lot of time and energy into understanding your patterns online, what you were doing, what you are looking for, and where you are having issues. We tried to map better ways for you to find the critical information you need much faster and with a more enjoyable experience. While I know we have things to continue to refine and improve, we recently received some external, unbiased feedback that we are headed in the right direction.
Shortly after finishing both sites, we submitted the new Microfocus.com site and the new SUSE.com to be considered for one of the more prestigious web awards, an award that we’ve applied for many times in the past and have yet to win in this category.
Amazingly, both sites won the 2016 Web Awards forComputer: Software Standard of Excellence. A public announcement was made a few weeks ago and awards should be arriving soon. Visit the WMA winner’s pages here:
Winning this award is a strong external validation that the site you helped to build is world class and cutting edge in its approach to showcasing a wide set of products and solutions. We also feel that this award substantiates the investment of time and energy spent on designing to the user’s experience and developing a sound, tech-forward site which most importantly has been proven of value to our actual users!
We really appreciate the time that many of you have taken with us to help inform page layouts, content, calls to action, etc. In the spirit of Kaizen, we plan to keep evolving and finessing, and hope to achieve the highest level of award next year in this and other website award programs.
Our UX team is systematically testing the new site to find ways to further improve the user experience on key customer interaction areas. We have tools that enable us to spot and study customer confusion and unnecessary friction in the way our pages present information and links. Over time we can make subtle adjustments that make a big difference in the overall user experience.

More about the awards
The sites are judged on seven criteria, on a scale of 1-70 by three or more expert judges. The judges are informed of our mission statement and the goal of the site and they take that into consideration. There are three levels of award, and we came within 2-2.5 points of the top level, with overall scores of 57.5 (Microfocus.com) and 58 (SUSE.com).
Below is the judges’ sheet for Microfocus.com. You will see we ranked highest for content, copy writing, and ease of use.
For SUSE.com the judges’ sheet is below. We ranked highest for Design, Innovation, Content and Copywriting on that site.
