Today, Novell announced the availability of Filr and iPrint for Samsung KNOX. With this exciting news, Novell is one of the first vendors to offer secure, enterprise-ready file access and print apps for Android devices through Samsung KNOX.
Android is a growing, but fragmented platform. In the consumer space, Android has rapidly overtaken all other computing platforms, including iOS, Windows, and Blackberry. A recent figure I saw indicated that there are over 1 billion Android device activations. Just when you thought you may be getting a handle on all of the BYO-devices accessing your network, you probably don’t.
Enter Samsung KNOX. Samsung KNOX is an Android-based platform designed from the ground up with security in mind to address the shortcomings of the current open source Android platform. The KNOX container technology adds an additional layer of security for the enterprise. One of the central features of KNOX is its container technology that provides the separation of employee work and personal life on their mobile device.
The beauty of this for Novell Filr and iPrint is that the Apps can be pushed down to your Samsung KNOX-compatible fleet of devices to be securely managed within the enterprise container. As employees or contractors join or leave your organizations, you have the ability to control who has access to your files, who they can share with and where they can print them.
Samsung KNOX can be managed by a number of MDM vendors including MobileIron, Airwatch, Citrix, and Fibrelink.
