I am pleased to announce the release today of Novell Storage Manager 3.0.
Developed with an emphasis on feature parity between the Active Directory and eDirectory versions of the product, Novell Storage Manager 3.0 introduces capabilities that were previously available only in the eDirectory version of the product. Some of the more notable new capabilities to the Active Directory version of the product include:
• Collaborative storage support
• Quota management support
• Policy support for user profiles and Remote Desktop Services
• Auxiliary storage
• GSR Collector (formerly known as the “Janitor”)
• Anomaly reports
Of course, there are some great enhancements to the eDirectory version of the product as well, the most notable being that the Novell Storage Manager 3.0 NSM Engine is now hosted on a Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 machine, rather than NetWare server. Novell Storage Manager 3.0 is the first version of the product to not have a NetWare requirement. Of course, Novell Storage Manager 3.0 will continue to be able to manage user and collaborative storage on NetWare volumes.
Other enhancements in the eDirectory version of the product include scheduling capabilities for file grooming and scheduled data collection from the GSR Collector (formerly known as the “Janitor”).
There is also a new HTML Installation Interface that simplifies the installation of all of the Novell Storage Manager components. For eDirectory environments, the HTML Installation Interface can even help in setting up a software repository for installing the component RPMs.
Novell Storage Manager 3.0 is one of three products comprising the Novell File Management Suite, which was also updated today. In fact, we scheduled the launch of the Suite’s new website today as well. Be sure to check it out at: http://www.novell.com/products/file-management-suite/
