The bring your own device (BYOD) debate has suddenly become a top issue again, following the recent White House decision to ban personal devices from the West Wing.

“The security and integrity of the technology systems at the White House is a top priority for the Trump administration and therefore, starting next week, the use of all personal devices for both guests and staff will no longer be allowed in the West Wing,” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders recently stated.

It’s a decision that all organizations are now struggling with. On one hand, allowing personal devices is convenient for workers. But from a network security perspective, it’s extremely risky as it allows exposing sensitive technology systems to a wide range of unpredictable cyberthreats.

What’s more, most workers today are engaging in threatening activities online. According to one study, 99 percent of office workers have conducted at least one potentially dangerous action that could cause a data breach.

Here are some other troubling findings from the study:

96 percent of respondents indicated that they automatically save work passwords on their work computer; 24 percent reuse the same login credentials for their work and personal accounts; and 57 percent store work files on their desktop folders.

Micro Focus offers a variety of solutions that your business can use to establish an environment that is safe, and mobile-friendly.
