ConsoleOne 1.3.6
Download Information Page

ConsoleOne® is a Java utility that lets you manage eDirectory™ objects, schema, partitions, replicas, and NetWare® server resources. Additional capabilities are added to ConsoleOne if you install other Novell® products. For example, if you install Novell eDirectory, LDAP management capabilities are added.

Other Novell products include snap-ins you can use to administer those products. These snap-ins are available from the Novell Download Site.

Novell ZENworks customers must continue to use ConsoleOne 1.3.5. For more information see http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/search/searchtid.cgi?/10083888.htm

You might want to print these instructions before proceeding.

System Requirements

Operating Systems

You can get Novell Clients and the NICI Client from the Novell Downloads Site.

  • Any Linux* Standard Base (LSB) 1.2 or later certified distribution with JVM 1.4.0 or later

Note: IBM JRE 1.4.0 is included in the ConsoleOne package, but you can choose not to install it if you already have a JVM. We recommend using Sun JRE 1.4.1.

ConsoleOne 1.3.6 has been tested on the following versions of Linux. Other platforms such as Turbo Linux might work, but the results are unpredictable.

Recommendations For Optimal Performance

Installation

If a previous version of ConsoleOne is running on the computer where you will install ConsoleOne, exit that version of ConsoleOne.

If you will install ConsoleOne on a NetWare server, unload all Java processes and JAVA.NLM on that server.

To see the active Java processes, enter JAVA -SHOWALL at the console prompt.
To unload all Java processes, enter JAVA -KILLALL at the console prompt.
To unload JAVA.NLM, enter JAVA -EXIT at the console prompt.

Windows or NetWare

Download the ConsoleOne file to a temporary location on a Windows workstation. This file is a Windows executable. Double-click the c1.exe file that you just downloaded. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation. When you are prompted to choose the location to install to, choose either a drive mapped to a server volume or choose a local workstation drive.

Solaris or Linux

You must have root privileges to run the install. If eDirectory is installed on the same machine you will install ConsoleOne on, it must be eDirectory 8.7.1 to avoid packaging problems.

  1. Download the ConsoleOne package (c1_136_linux.tgz or c1_136_solaris.tgz) to a temporary location.
  2. Use gunzip <downloaded file name> to convert the downloaded file to a tar file.
  3. Use tar xvf <ConsoleOne file name.tar> to get the ConsoleOne installation and uninstallation scripts.
  4. Run the ConsoleOne installation program by entering c1-install at the system prompt.
  5. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
