Overview of DNS/DHCP Services

Novell® DNS/DHCP Services in NetWare® 6 integrates the Domain Name System (DNS) and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) into the eDirectory database. Integrating these services into eDirectory provides centralized administration and enterprise-wide management of network (IP) addresses, configuration, and hostnames.

The DNS/DHCP Management Utility provides a Web interface to manage the objects created to support DNS and DHCP. The DNS/DHCP Management Utility functions as a Web-based utility and runs in a browser window. It does not require a Novell client or any installed component as a prerequisite. It shares a common interface with other utilities that are based on the eDirectory Management (iManager) framework, and is thus tightly integrated with NetWare 6.

NOTE:  In this document, the term host refers to a network device that requires an IP address and might have a hostname.
