Overview

UDDI Services within Novell^® exteNd™ Application Server refers to a UDDI Version 2 test registry that can be used for developing and testing Web services.

This is a light-weight edition of the Novell Nsure™ UDDI Server and comes bundled with its own LDAP server, also called as XLDAP server. Users can publish and inquire Web services through exteNd Workbench or Composer.

Though this server offers similar UDDI V2 capabilities as that of Novell Nsure UDDI Server, it offers reduced levels of security, scalability and performance due to the corresponding limitations enforced by the XLDAP Server.

Developers can use this UDDI Service for developing and testing their Web services before deploying them on Novell Nsure UDDI Server.

1.0 Deployment

To deploy UDDI Services, refer to the install.html file available in the NOVELL_EXTEND_APPSERVER_HOME/UDDI directory, where NOVELL_EXTEND_APPSERVER_HOME is the directory where the exteNd Application Server is installed.

2.0 Known Issues and Limitations

• The exteNd Application Server must run in the unrestricted mode. If you install this in a restricted mode, you must explicitly disable authentication from the Novell Application Server Management Console (SMC).
• In order to access UDDI Services from Novell exteNd Composer 4.1, you must upgrade Composer with the UDDI V2 patch. Contact Novell Technical Support to obtain this patch.
• Being a test registry, the UDDI registry can store around 5000-8000 UDDI objects, which include 10 business entities, 100 business services per business entity, etc.
• The XLDAP servlet cannot be removed after upgrading the UDDI Services to Novell Nsure UDDI Server. You can ignore this, since the memory utilization by the XLDAP servlet is negligible.
• The XLDAP server cannot be started on standard LDAP ports such as 389 and 636. This is because, the XLDAP Server is exclusively designed to be used with UDDI Services only and not intended to be used as a standard LDAP Server.
• After a business entity is created, you cannot delete it using Workbench or Composer. However, you can use third-party UDDI browsers such as JAXR registry browser to delete the business entity.
• Upgrading UDDI Services to Nsure UDDI Server will not migrate the user credentials and UDDI data.
