Product Description

The Micro Focus Filr desktop application for Windows, Linux, and Mac allows users to synchronize Micro Focus Filr files with their computers, and then modify the files without accessing the Filr site directly. Users can also create new files from their computers, which are then synchronized to Filr.

Installation files are included in the Filr appliance: and can be enabled for end-user downloading as documented in Desktop Access All Users and Groups Default Settings and Desktop Access Individual Users and Groups in the Filr Administrative UI Reference.

File Description

Micro Focus Filr provides three client interfaces: A web application, mobile applications, and a desktop application. The web application is available after your Filr system is installed and configured. The mobile applications can be downloaded from the appropriate app store.

This section describes the files that are included in the MicroFocusFilrAutoUpdate.tgz file for the Filr desktop application for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Filename Usage
MicroFocusFilrAutoUpdate.tgz This is a compressed file that includes all files you need for distributing the Filr desktop application.

The included files are described below.

FilrLinuxClient.tar.bz2 This is the Filr desktop application for Linux.
--Mac--
MicroFocusFilr-3.3.1.pkg This is the Filr desktop application for Mac.
--Windows--
FilrPluginforOfficeandOutlook-2.1.0.msi This MSI file enables you to work with files in your My Files area of the Filr server directly from a Microsoft Office 2013 and 2016 application such as Excel, Word, Outlook, or PowerPoint. This functionality is only available if your Filr Administrator has enabled this functionality on the appliance.
MicroFocusFilr-x64-3.3.1.msi This is the Filr desktop application for Windows for 64-bit workstations. Use the MSI file only when you want to distribute the Filr desktop application via client management software such as Micro Focus ZENworks. The MSI file does not include .NET Framework 4.5, which is required.
MicroFocusFilr-x86-3.3.1.msi This is the Filr desktop application for Windows for 32-bit workstations. Use the MSI file only when you want to distribute the Filr desktop application via client management software such as Micro Focus ZENworks. The MSI file does not include .NET Framework 4.5, which is required.
MicroFocusFilrSetup-x64-3.3.1.exe This is the Filr desktop application for Windows for 64-bit workstations. This EXE file includes .NET Framework 4.5 and Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable Package, which are required.
MicroFocusFilrSetup-x86-3.3.1.exe This is the Filr desktop application for Windows for 32-bit workstations. This EXE file includes .NET Framework 4.5 and Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable Package, which are required.

Downloading and Installing Filr

To make the Filr desktop application available to users:

  1. Follow the on-screen prompts to download the files you need to a temporary directory on your management workstation.
  2. To configure the Filr desktop application to be deployed from your Filr system, see Desktop Access--All Users... and Desktop Access--Individual Users... in the Filr Administrative UI Reference.
