1.0 About Micro Focus Kanaka for Mac 3.0

Micro Focus Kanaka for Mac 3.0 is a major release that has been rebranded for Micro Focus.

Novell Kanaka for Mac 2.8 introduced certificate verification for all client component requests. This functionality has been moved forward into Micro Focus Kanaka for Mac 3.0. This means that with the deployment of 3.0 client components, including the Desktop Client, Plug-in, and Plug-in Console, you will need to either have a server certificate signed by a trusted Certificate Authority or if you are using a self-signed certificate (e.g. one signed by your eDirectory tree’s root CA) you will need to deploy that trusted root certificate to all of your client workstations. See section 3.5 in Chapter 3 of the Micro Focus Kanaka for Mac 3.0 Installation and Administration Guide for more details.

2.0 Supported macOS Versions

The client components, including the Desktop Client, Plug-in, and Plug-in Console, are no longer supported on macOS 10.3 and 10.4. The minimum macOS version is now 10.5.

The supported versions of macOS are:

  • Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

  • Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

  • Mac OS X 10.7 Lion

  • OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion

  • OS X 10.9 Mavericks

  • OS X 10.10 Yosemite

  • OS X 10.11 El Capitan

  • macOS 10.12.4 Sierra*

*10.12.4 is minimum Sierra version that is supported

3.0 Support for Legacy Novell Kanaka for Mac Clients

Micro Focus Kanaka for Mac 3.0 provides support for 2.7.x and 2.8.x client components, including the Desktop Client, Plug-in, and Plug-in Console. Existing client deployments do not need to be upgraded when the Kanaka Server component is upgraded.

4.0 Support for Open Enterprise Server 2

As of December 31, 2014, Micro Focus discontinued Extended Support for Open Enterprise Server 2. As a result, the Kanaka Engine component is only supported on Open Enterprise Server11 or later.

Micro Focus Kanaka for Mac will continue to support Open Enterprise Server 2 as a target for user and collaborative storage.
