You can modify a catalog to add or remove categories of information. You can modify the scope of the catalog, the selection criteria, or both.
For example, if you have a catalog of a company division's users and their telephone numbers, you could modify the scope of the catalog to include the whole company, not just a division. You could also include users' fax numbers as a selection criterion. Depending on the urgency of a catalog refresh, you could then choose to manually update (refresh) the catalog.
