Operations Center 5.5 provides a platform to integrate information captured by multiple management systems into a single view of your technology environment. You can optimize the management of your technology resources, the performance of services supported by the technology, and the responsiveness to events in the technology environment. The Operations Center platform consists of a suite of tools and functionality that offer a wide range of possibilities for design, deployment, and ongoing management of your technology and business environment. While quick and easy to get started, Operations Center offers the ability to be fully customized so that your implementation can be as unique as your business needs, technology environment, and your imagination.

New Features

Operations Center 5.5 includes new features, enhancements, and support for latest platforms across Operations Center components.

  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Support
    Operations Center officially supports Java 1.7.0_60 Runtime Environment.
  • New Operating System Support
    Operations Center now supports Windows 2012.
  • New DBMS Support
    Operations Center now supports:
    • Oracle 12c
    • PostgresSQL 9.3.4 (Unsupported for Operations Center Dashboard)
    • Sybase 15.7
  • New Management System & Discovery Tool Integrations
    Operations Center officially integrates to the following management systems and discovery tools:
    • Computer Associates (CA) Spectrum 9.3
    • IBM Micromuse Netcool 7.4
    • IBM Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager (TADDM) 7.2.0.x
    • NetIQ Sentinel 7.1.1.2

  • Updated Network View in Operations Center Console
    The Network View has been replaced with a new rendering tool that provides advanced presentation features, increased visualization of element relationships, and enhanced navigation of hierarchical structures. It is an enhanced layout of the selected hierarchy, including relationships between such objects as technology and service components.
    • Click an element node to zoom-in, double-click to drill-in. Click the back or home button to navigate upwards.
    • Using condition buttons, filter elements in and out based on severity.
    • Select the depth of child elements to show.
    • Connector styles correspond to relationship type.
    • Select from various preset layout styles and further customize settings.
  • New Dashboard Features and Enhancements
    In Operations Center 5.5 brings a new Look & Feel to the Dashboard with a new default theme. This Operations Center theme is simple, yet modern with lots of white space. In addition, Operations Center 5.5 brings many more features and enhancements to Dashboard users:
    • Introducing the Network View Portlet: The new Network View portlet provides Dashboard users the ability to visualize element relationships and navigate hierarchical structures, similar to the functionality available in console’s Network view
    • New Portlet Features for AppManager Integration
      New features added in Dashboard portlets provides the ability to view AppManager information including:
      • customized view for each alarm that includes summary information, all alarm properties and the ability to add comments.
      • New Jobs tab in the Information portlet give users access to a list of all jobs for a machine(s), with a detailed informational view for each job including schedule settings and knowledge script information.
      • New right-click menu option on Navigation portlet to support Maintenance Mode.
    • Dashboard Enhancements for Usability and Performance
      Additional enhancements include:
      • Improved right-click menu support in Navigation portlet and Alarms portlet. In addition, menus are turned on by default.
      • New option for Information portlet to turn off left-side navigation panel.
      • Enhanced user interface and controls for Alarms portlet, Summary portlet, Root Cause portlet, and Show Impacted portlet.
      • Performance improvements on real-time updates and data retrieval for the Layout portlet.
      • Performance improvements to AppManager integration.

Downloading and Installing

The Operations Center 5.5 release offers several different packages for installing various components of the system.

This is a high-level overview of the installation process for typical customers. For more details and alternatives, see the Operations Center 5.5 Documentation Web site.

  1. Download the main Operations Center installation file named NOC550.iso to the host where you will install Operations Center and unpack it into a temporary directory using a compatible utility tool.
  2. Run the installation, and follow the on-screen prompts to install the Operations Center Server and Dashboard. For more information about installing Operations Center, see the Operations Center Installation Guide on the Operations Center 5.5 Documentation Web site.
