You can host on your server discussion groups from other servers by importing the names of the discussion groups from an ACTIVE file, a list of discussion groups that are supported by a server. Importing is a quick way to support the same discussion groups that are available on other servers.
To host the same discussion groups on your server that are being sent by another server, you should obtain that server's ACTIVE file and import the desired discussion groups into your server's ACTIVE file. Importing can take several minutes, depending on the size of the ACTIVE file being imported.
IMPORTANT: Because the server is sensitive to the exact format of the ACTIVE file, you should never manually edit it. All modifications should be done through the Import Discussion Groups form, which automatically pauses the server.
To import a discussion group:
From the General Administration page, click the News Server server name button > Discussion Groups > Import Discussion Groups.
Click one of the following options:
In the associated field, type the path to and name of the ACTIVE file.
In the associated field, type the server name or IP address of the remote host.
Type the name of the discussion groups to import.
Type the name of the person who created the discussion group.
Click OK.
