The following is the default expiration policy for articles:
Expiration headers are headers that say when to expire the message. The expiration header is determined by the client who posts the message.
For more information about the HISTORY file, refer to Recovering the HISTORY File.
The default expiration policy covers all discussion groups that are not covered by a custom policy. You can edit the default policy and specify your own values.
To edit the default expiration policy:
From the General Administration page, click the News Server server name button > Expiration > View/Manage Expiration Policies.
Under Default Expiration Policy, click Edit.
From the Edit Default Expiration Policy form, type the number of days you want articles to remain in the HISTORY file.
The Remember HISTORY field should be equal to or higher than the longest expiration setting. The Remember HISTORY field tells the server how long to keep the message ID in the HISTORY file, regardless of how long the article actually remains in the spool. For more information about the HISTORY file, refer to Recovering the HISTORY File.
To determine how long you want to keep articles on disk, select one of the following options:
Do not specify this option if you want to maintain control over the expiration policy of all articles stored in your spool.
Click OK.
