If you enable encryption on your News Server, you need to be aware of how encryption affects
Normally, you access news server with the following URL:
news://servername/discussiongroup
To access a secure news server, use the following URL:
snews://servername/discussiongroup
To access a secure news server with security temporarily disabled, use the following URL:
news://servername:563
With a secure news server, connections and transmissions are secure. After the article reaches its destination, however, it is only as secure as the machine on which it is stored.
If you have already set up replication and now want to receive encrypted replication feeds, you need to modify the Configure Replication Host form.
From the General Administration page, click the News Server server name button > Discussion Replicaton > Configure Replication Host.
Under Remote Server Port, select Use This Port. In the associated field, type the port number you specified in the Encryption On/Off form (from the News Server interface, click Encryption > Activate Connection Security).
Under SSL Setting for Outgoing Connection, select Remote Server Uses SSL.
Click OK.
If you have encryption enabled on your News Server, you can still send to a News Server that does not have encryption enabled. For more information about replication, refer to Managing Replication.
You cannot specify that certain discussion groups be secure and others not be secure. (This release does not support multiple instances of the News Server.) Because Usenet newsfeeds run nonsecure server software, you cannot receive Usenet newsfeeds if your server has encryption enabled.
