Using the Daily Report

Understanding the Daily Report

The News Server uses the program news.daily to perform daily maintenance processes, some of which are reported in the daily report. For more information on news.daily, refer to Running News.daily.

The daily report also includes information summaries of the server's performance and activities for the last day. The daily report shows you the following:

• The status of the server (running or stopped) and whether it's accepting new replication and reader connections
• The file system status, including how much disk space is being used
• The sizes of the following files: HISTORY, ACTIVE, Server Log, and the Discussion Replication Log
• Information about expiration policies and expiration status, including the number of article lines processed, articles retained, expired entries, unlinked files, old entries dropped, old entries retained
• Information about archival logs
• Information about server statistics, including statistics time summary; replication statistics; all articles posted to the server; and user connections, posts, and reads

  The server statistics can also be seen in the Server Statistics report.

Some information is color-coded (red, green, or yellow). For example, the file system capacity appears in green if you have a lot of disk space left; it appears in red if you are running out of disk space.

The daily report is generated at the same time the daily tasks are run. You can specify that the daily report be sent automatically to your e-mail address in the Mail Notices to News Administrator form (from the News Server interface, click Reports > Mail Notices).

Generating the Daily Report

1. From the General Administration page, click the News Server server name button > Reports > View Daily Report.

2. Select the daily report that you want to view.

3. Click View Report.
