Although Novell® NetWare® no longer supports in-place or remote upgrades, this information is being included so that customers with NetWare 5.1 or 6.0 servers can use the NetWare 6.5 SP6 overlay CDs to perform an in-place or remote upgrade to NetWare 6.5 SP6 as part of a transition to NetWare 6.5 SP8 (NetWare 6.5 SP8).

IMPORTANT:To complete the upgrade procedures outlined in this section, you need the NetWare 6.5 SP6 overlay CDs. The .iso image files for these CDs can be downloaded from the Novell Downloads Web site. Follow the instructions included with the download to create CDs from the image files.
Upgrading a server to NetWare 6.5 by using the overlay CD method includes the following tasks:
IMPORTANT:Upgrades to NetWare 6.5 are performed on a running NetWare server. The down-server upgrade method is no longer supported. See Section C.7, Down-Server Upgrades for more information.
