An abend.log is a text file maintained by the server. When an abend occurs, information is logged that documents the abend that occurred as well as other information that describes the state of the server at the time of the crash, such as processes that were running and NLM programs that were loaded.
Viewing the abend.log file might prove helpful, but it is only a basic summary. Serious debugging probably requires a core dump.
