Specifying Disk Drivers Manually

You might want to change the behavior of hardware detection and the NDS database upgrade. By replacing the -U option with the -MU option from the lines that load HDETECT.NLM in the HWDETECT.ICS script file, you can confirm or add new hardware devices during the upgrade.

To confirm or add new hardware devices during the upgrade, you must physically be at the server console of the target server.

This procedure can also be used to load disk drivers that are not provided on the NetWare 6 Operating System CD. This action might be beneficial when upgrading multiple servers with identical hardware components. If you select specific drivers manually, you must create and configure a \STARTUP directory that contains the disk drivers and the STARTUP.NCF file.

  1. Copy the NetWare 6 Operating System CD files to a volume on a staging server.

IMPORTANT:  Do not copy the files onto the target server that you are upgrading or onto the client workstation.

  2. Make sure that the target server can connect to the staging server.

  3. Copy any additional .HAM and .CDM disk drivers that you need to the \STARTUP directory on the staging server.

  4. Continue with Prepare the Network .
