2.4 What’s New (September 2012 Patches)

In addition to bug fixes, the OES 2 SP3 January 2012 Scheduled Maintenance patch provides the following enhancement and behavior changes for Novell Cluster Services:

Master Election Process

Novell Cluster Services introduces some intelligence in the master election process when the master leaves a cluster (voluntarily or involuntarily). The same master is elected under both the old and new algorithms, but the conclusion is reached sooner, especially for larger clusters. The new algorithm substantially reduces the time needed for master election in some cases.

This algorithm was first introduced in OES 11 SP1. For information about the old and new algorithm, see Electing a Master Node in the OES 11 SP1: Novell Cluster Services 2.1 NetWare to Linux Conversion Guide.

Updating to the Clusters Plug-In for Novell iManager 2.7.5

The Clusters plug-in for Novell iManager 2.7.5 in OES 11 SP1 supports management of OES 2 SP3 clusters. The plug-in was reorganized to display two tasks in the left panel: My Clusters and My Resources. Ensure that you perform the following tasks after updating the plug-in:

For information about using the new Clusters plug-in, see the OES 11 SP1: Novell Cluster Services 2.1 for Linux Administration Guide.
