2.6 Setting Up a Scanner

You can configure a scanner at any time using YaST. The sane-backends package contains hardware drivers and other essentials needed to use a scanner.

  1. Connect your scanner to your computer and turn on the scanner.

  2. Start YaST and select Hardware > Scanner. YaST will check if the sane-backends package is available and will try to detect your scanner model automatically.

  3. Depending on the results, proceed as follows:

    • If you scanner is detected properly, select the entry and click Edit.

    • If your scanner cannot be automatically detected, try Other > Restart Detection first. If this does not work, click Add to open the manual configuration dialog and select the appropriate model and driver. Refer to the Help text for detailed information.

  4. Click Next twice.

  5. Test the scanner by clicking Other > Test.

  6. Click Finish to close this module.
