The Most Interoperable

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is the only Linux distribution that Microsoft officially recommends for customers who want to use Windows and Linux together. SUSE Linux Enterprise is also the only Linux platform that SAP endorses for customers who want to run their SAP applications on Linux.

When combined with Microsoft Windows, you get the unprecedented flexibility of running both SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and Windows Server, knowing that both operating systems will work together seamlessly.

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server Download Instructions

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is available for download for each available platform as four CD ISO images or two DVD ISO images:

  • Files with "i386" in the name are for the x86 platform.
  • Files with "x86_64" in the name are for the AMD64 and Intel 64 platforms.
  1. Download the ISO images to a workstation or to a network drive.
  2. Create CDs or a DVD from the ISO images.

Important: Create the CDs or DVD using the contents of the ISO images. Do not create the CDs or DVD by burning the .iso files themselves to CD or DVD. For example, if you're using K3b to burn a CD, click Tools > CD > Burn CD Image, select the .iso image, then click Burn.

Configuring SMT to Update Red Hat Enterprise Linux

SUSE Linux Subscription Management Tool (SMT) is required to be able to retrieve updates for Red Hat* Enterprise Linux (RHEL). SMT 11 enables customers that possess the required entitlements to mirror updates for RHEL.

SMT is available as a download to all customers with an active SUSE Linux Enterprise Server subscription and is fully supported. It is packaged as an add-on product to be installed on a SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 server. Any SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 SP3, SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 SP1 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux product updated from nu.novell.com can be locally supported via a Subscription Management Tool server.

For instructions on how to prepare SMT server for mirroring and publishing updates for RHEL, please visit How to Update Red Hat Enterprise Linux with SMT 11.

During SMT setup, you will use the mirroring credentials you have received as part of this evaluation that enable time limited access to SUSE-provided RHEL update catalogs.
