Product Description

Novell Storage Manager for Active Directory introduces management and structure to an unmanaged and unstructured Windows network storage system. In the process, it automates the full life-cycle management of user and group storage. Leveraging Microsoft Active Directory, Novell Storage Manager automates a comprehensive set of storage management tasks based on events, identity, and Active Directory-enacted policies.

Novell Storage Manager for eDirectory leverages eDirectory to provide similar services for Novell network storage systems in your eDirectory environment.

New to Novell Storage Manager 4.1 for Active Directory

Novell Storage Manager 4.1 for Active Directory is an engineering maintenance release that adds new functionality while resolving several issues. For a detailed explanation of these items, refer to the Release Notes.

  • Global Statistics Report (GSR) Collector Improvements
The GSR Collector has been redesigned to improve performance and reduce memory consumption. It has been extended to collect data and report on additional managed path types. Additionally, a new scoping configuration has been added to tailor the GSR Collector to the needs of your environment.

  • NSMAdmin Direct Database Access
NSMAdmin now has direct access to the SQL Server database instance for improved performance with Pending Events, GSR Collector Anomaly reports, and redistribution.

  • Bug Fixes
Bugs that previously affected the NSM Engine, Event Monitor, Cross-Empire Data Migration, the Database Configuration Wizard, and the administrative interface have been fixed. For detailed information, refer to the Novell Storage Manager 4.1 Release Notes.

Novell Storage Manager 4.1 for Active Directory is also available in the Novell File Management Suite, which includes Novell File Reporter and Novell Dynamic File Services.

New to Novell Storage Manager 4.0.0.1 for eDirectory

Novell Storage Manager 4.0.0.1 for eDirectory is a maintenance release of version 4.0 that offers new functionality and addresses several bug fixes. For a detailed explanation of these items, refer to the Release Notes.

IMPORTANT: As of December 31, 2014, Novell discontinued Extended Support for Open Enterprise Server 2. As a result, the components located in the SLES10 folder of the Novell Storage Manager 4.0 ISO are included as a courtesy for Open Enterprise Server 2 customers who have not yet upgraded to a supported version of Open Enterprise Server. These components are not supported, and their inclusion is not an indication that they are supported. Novell Storage Manager will continue to support Open Enterprise Server 2 as a storage target.

  • Export Policy Associations
The policy associations are now exported when you export a policy.
  • Improved Support for DSfW
Events generated by objects created in an environment where Domain Services for Windows (DSfW) has been configured generate invalid object FDNs, which are now corrected by the NSM Engine.
  • Bug Fixes
Bugs that had previously affected the Event Monitor and the NSM Engine have been fixed.

Novell Storage Manager 4.0.0.1 for eDirectory is also available in the Novell File Management Suite for Open Enterprise Server, which includes Novell File Reporter and Novell Dynamic File Services (with the OES server).
