Micro Focus Storage Manager for Active Directory introduces management and structure to an unmanaged and unstructured Windows network storage system. In the process, it automates the full life-cycle management of user and group storage. Leveraging Microsoft Active Directory, Storage Manager automates a comprehensive set of storage management tasks based on events, identity, and Active Directory-enacted policies.

Micro Focus Storage Manager for eDirectory introduces management and structure to an unmanaged and unstructured Novell or Micro Focus network storage system. In the process, it automates the full life-cycle management of user and group storage. Leveraging directory services (commonly referred to as "the directory"), Storage Manager automates a comprehensive set of storage management tasks based on events, identity, and policies that reside in the directory.

Micro Focus Storage Manager 5.1 for Active Directory adds new functionality while resolving several issues. For a detailed explanation of these items, refer to the Release Notes.

• Cross-Forest Data Management
  After you have established a trust relationship, you can manage data in a secondary forest.

• Faster Data Copying
  Multi-threaded data copying improves performance for any management task involving data movement.

• Managed Path Naming Attribute
  Managed paths are no longer restricted to the name of the sAMAccountName attribute value, which might or might not be a descriptive name of the user or group. The Managed Path Naming Attribute allows you to choose from among multiple attributes for the user or group folder name.

• Multi-Principal Group Storage Policies
  This new policy type allows for multiple groups to access a shared group folder, with each group having different sets of permissions to the group folder.

• New Action Blocks
  There are new Action Blocks for the Managed Path Naming Attribute and Multi-Principal Group Storage policies.

• Scope
  Rather than burdening the Event Monitor in observing all events in an Active Directory forest or domain, this new feature lets you "scope" the segments of the forest or domain that the Event Monitor will monitor. A scoped segment of the forest or domain might include specific containers or groups.

Micro Focus Storage Manager 5.1 for Active Directory is also available in the Micro Focus File Management Suite, which includes Micro Focus File Reporter and Novell Dynamic File Services.

• Micro Focus Branding
  Storage Manager has been rebranded as a Micro Focus product. Based on the rebranding of the product, updates were made to some filenames and paths.

• Large Volume Support
  Storage Manager supports large volumes for Open Enterprise Server 2015 in an eDirectory environment.

Micro Focus Storage Manager 5.0 for eDirectory is also available in the Micro Focus File Management Suite for Open Enterprise Server, which includes Micro Focus File Reporter and Dynamic Storage Technology (for OES 11 SP2 and OES 2015 in eDirectory environments).

The evaluation version of Micro Focus Storage Manager is a full-featured version of the product, restricted to 30 days through an evaluation license. After you download the product ISO and begin the installation, you can request an evaluation license. The timespan of the evaluation license begins the day that license is downloaded, rather than the day it is installed.
