SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is a highly reliable, scalable and secure server operating system, built to power mission-critical workloads in physical, virtual and cloud environments. SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is an affordable, interoperable and manageable open source foundation that enterprises can use to cost-effectively deliver core business services, enable secure networks and easily manage their heterogeneous IT resources, maximizing efficiency and value. SUSE Linux Enterprise Server provides market-leading usability, seamless interoperability with existing IT systems, and virtualization capabilities as both host and perfect guest.
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP4 introduces support for a new generation of hardware, allowing you to harness the computing power from the latest industry standard CPUs, including Intel® Xeon® processor E7-8800/4800 v3 product family, IBM z13™ (z13), and IBM POWER8 (in big endian mode).
To address the needs of faster iteration in certain areas, SP4 introduces the Public Cloud Module and expands the earlier announced Security Module. These modules are independent repositories and are included in the subscription without additional cost.
The Btrfs file system and tools have been upgraded to the recent codebase, on par with the implementation used in SUSE Linux Enterprise 12, to improve the file system performance and manageability and provide new functionality, such as (out of band) deduplication.
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP4 provides the client tools for integration with the Ceph based SUSE Enterprise Storage, and thus smoothly integrates with this software defined storage framework.
With adding the davfs2 kernel module, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP4 integrates nicely with the WebDAV protocol, a widely accepted standard of distributed access to file storage in datacenters and clouds.
SUSE™ Linux* Enterprise Server is available for download for each available platform as two DVD ISO images. DVD1 contains the binary packages, DVD2 the source code:
Important: Create the DVDs using the contents of the ISO images. Do not create the DVDs by burning the .iso files themselves (i.e. as a single "track") to DVD. Instead always choose "burn image", "burn ISO", "write premastered image", ... or similar.
For quick installation instructions, see the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP4 Installation Quick Start, available under the docu directory on the ISO image for DVD1. Or find our documentation available online at the SUSE Documentation pages.
For more detailed installation instructions, see the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP4 Administration and Deployment Guides available under the docu directory on the ISO images for DVD1, and online as well.
