SUSE Linux Enterprise Software Development Kit 12

SUSE Linux Enterprise Software Development Kit 12 is a comprehensive development tool kit that is designed to support developers, as well as independent hardware vendors (IHVs) and independent software vendors (ISVs), in creating applications on or porting them to SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 products.

SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 has been designed around three themes:

  1. Increase uptime: Minimize both planned and unplanned downtime, and maximize services availability.
  2. Improve operational efficiency: Save time and money by simplifying and automating IT management.
  3. Accelerate innovation: Get fast and easy access to abundant Open Source and partner innovations.

Prerequisites

To use the SUSE Linux Enterprise Software Development Kit 12, you must install either:

  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 or
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 12

Download and Installation

SUSE™ Linux* Enterprise Software Development Kit is available for download for each available platform as two DVD ISO images. DVD1 contains the binary packages, DVD2 the source code:

  • Files with "x86_64" in the name are for the AMD64 and Intel* 64 platforms.
  • Files with "s390x" in the name are for IBM* System z.
  • Files with "ppc64le" in the name are for the IBM* Power LE platform.

Adding the SUSE Linux Enterprise Software Development Kit

You can add the Workstation Extension 12 to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 as an add-on product at install time or later.

Adding SUSE Linux Enterprise Software Development Kit During Installation

To add the Software Development Kit while installing SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12, register your SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 at the SUSE Customer Center during installation. After a successful installation, you'll see a list of Extensions and Modules, the SUSE Linux Enterprise Software Development Kit 12 amongst them. Select it and follow the next steps as proposed by the Installer.

Alternatively, select the "Include Add-On Products from Separate Media" box on the Installation Mode Screen. Depending on your installation, you can add the Software Development Kit from media 1 or from a remote installation source, such as an FTP server, on the next screen.

Adding the SUSE Linux Enterprise Software Development Kit After Installation

To add the Software Development Kit after you have already installed and registered SUSE Linux Enterprise 12, start YaST2. Go to Software - Software Repositories, click on Add and select "Extensions and Modules from Registration Server". This also works, if you have your local SMT Server.

Again, you can also chose to install from a local installation source: Go to Software - Add-On Products add media 1 of the Software Development Kit or a remote installation source. You can then either manually select the specific packages you want to install, or choose from the predefined patterns under the Install and Remove Software option. If you don't find a specific package that you need in any of the suggested usage patterns, try the package search. Some packages might not be included in a pattern.

You can then select the predefined patterns to automatically select the recommended packages, or manually choose a different list.
