Novell Client 2 SP4 for Windows provides connectivity to NetWare and OES Linux servers from Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2.

Novell Client 2 SP4 for Windows lets users on Windows workstations or Windows Server systems enjoy the full range of Novell services, including: authentication via Novell eDirectory, network browsing and service resolution, and secure and reliable file system access. All services are delivered through industry-standard protocols. The Novell Client also supports the Novell traditional NCP protocol.

If you are migrating away from the Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 platforms to the newer versions of Windows, use Novell Client 2 SP4 that provides most of the features that were available with the Novell Client 4.91 for Windows XP/ 2003 version.

System Requirements

Novell Client 2 SP4 for Windows is supported on the following platforms:

  • Windows 8.1 (x86 or x64) excluding Windows 8.1 RT
  • Windows 8 (x86 or x64) excluding Windows 8 RT
  • Windows Server 2012 (x64)
  • Windows Server 2012 R2 (x64)
  • Windows 7 (x86 or x64) (Ultimate Edition, Enterprise Edition, or Professional Edition)
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64) (Enterprise Edition, or Standard Edition)
  • The Novell Client for Windows is also supported in Desktop Virtualization and Terminalserver environments.

Non-Supported Windows Platforms

Novell Client 2 SP4 does not currently include support for Windows 10, which is scheduled to release after Novell Client 2 SP4 on July 29, 2015 or later. Novell is committed to delivering a Novell Client update release that will be compatible with Windows 10, at the earliest after Windows 10 has been officially released.

Novell Client 2 SP4 for Windows might run but is not supported on Windows Starter, Home Basic, and Home Premium editions.

On Windows Server platforms, Novell Client 2 SP4 for Windows might run but is not supported on Datacenter Edition, Web Server Edition, or on Server Core installations using any edition.

Novell Client 2 SP4 for Windows will not install or run on Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Server 2008 , Windows Server 2003, or Windows 2000.

Downloading and Installing

Overview

Novell Client 2 SP4 for Windows is delivered in a self-extracting (.exe) file that you open on a Windows workstation or a Windows Server system.

By default, after the client installation files are extracted, the installation program (setup.exe) launches automatically.

Downloading the Client without Installing

Use these instructions to download the client installation file set without installing the client. For example, do this if you are downloading the software to an installation source server that doesn't run the client.

  1. Download the client self-extracting file to a temporary directory.
  2. In the temporary directory, double-click the downloaded file.
  3. In the Unzip to Folder field, specify or browse to the path where you want the client installation file set extracted.
  4. Deselct the When done unzipping open: .\setup.exe option.
    (If you miss this step, you can still cancel the installation after it launches.)
  5. Click Unzip.
    A directory structure is created in the path you specified, and the installation file set is extracted.

The file set is now ready to use. To install the client software, double-click setup.exe.

Installing the Client Automatically
