Overview

Novell Client 2 SP4 for Windows is delivered in a self-extracting (.exe) file that you open on a Windows workstation or a Windows Server system.

By default, after the client installation files are extracted, the installation program (setup.exe) launches automatically.

To assist you with your installation needs, the following sections provide brief instructions and tips for

Downloading the Client without Installing

Use these instructions to download the client installation file set without installing the client. For example, do this if you are downloading the software to an installation source server that doesn't run the client.

1. Download the client self-extracting file to a temporary directory.
2. In the temporary directory, double-click the downloaded file.
3. In the Unzip to Folder field, specify or browse to the path where you want the client installation file set extracted.
4. Deselct the When done unzipping open: .\setup.exe option.
   (If you miss this step, you can still cancel the installation after it launches.)
5. Click Unzip.
   A directory structure is created in the path you specified, and the installation file set is extracted.

The file set is now ready to use. To install the client software, double-click setup.exe.

Downloading and Installing the Client

1. Download the Client self-extracting file to a temporary directory.
2. In the temporary directory, double-click the downloaded file.
3. In the Unzip to Folder field, specify or browse to the path where you want the Client installation file set extracted.
4. Click Unzip.
   A directory structure is created in the path you specified, the installation set is extracted, and the client setup program (setup.exe) launches.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the client.

Installing the Client Automatically

You can install the Novell Client software on workstations without end-user involvement through Automatic Client Upgrade (ACU) or the Novell Client Update Agent. For more information, see "Advanced Installation Options" in the Novell Client 2 SP4 Administration Guide.
