Product Description

ZENworks Application Virtualization 11.0 helps you to convert your Windows-compatible applications into self-contained virtual applications. When an application is virtualized, it becomes a single, isolated file that can run instantly from anywhere, including a thumb drive. Unlike traditional installation methods, the single virtual application file does not require a separate setup process or rely on external components and runtimes, reboots, or administrative privileges. The application is isolated from other system applications, preventing DLL conflicts and other deployment issues, but the experience for the application’s user is unchanged.

Key Features

  • Flexible Configuration Choices
ZENworks Application Virtualization provides four methods to create and configure virtualized applications. The best method depends on the nature of the application.
    • Performing a desktop scan. This scans the local machine for installed applications and matches them to the current template list. An administrator can then select from the list of matched applications and virtualize one or more in a single step. This option is ideal for first-time users.
    • Building an application from a template. ZENworks Application Virtualization provides templates for a number of common enterprise applications. Templates are designed to automatically virtualize the application and its configuration in a single step. This option is ideal for first-time users.
    • Taking a snapshot of an application installation. This captures the system’s state before and after an application is installed, and automatically configures virtual application settings based on observed system changes. This method is ideal for virtualizing off-the-shelf applications where no matching template exists.
    • Configuring an application manually. This method is most often used by developers who are virtualizing internally developed applications.
  • Integration with ZENworks Configuration Management
To control how virtual applications are used, you can create and publish ZENworks bundles, then distribute them through ZENworks Configuration Management.
  • Shutdown Shims
This feature allows you to configure an executable that should be run once shutdown of the application is initiated, before the application fully exits.
  • Startup Applications
This feature auto registers applications assigned as startup applications on initial login to the plugin, portal. The application icons and associations will be automatically registered on the machine when the user logs in.
  • Containers
Desktop application containers in ZENworks Application Virtualization 11.0 provide a way for the administrator to define a set of applications that share a common "My Documents" folder that can be isolated from the rest of the system. For instance, consider a scenario in which you are an employee who uses ZENworks Application Virtualization, and you have left your laptop at work. Using ZENworks Application Virtualization you can log into the portal, unlock the container, run the virtual application over the web, open the files in the "My Documents" folder in the container, make changes and close the application. When the application exits, the "My Documents" data is synchronized with the server and the local copy is stored in a secure, encrypted container. This data is encrypted to ensure that if a device is stolen or lost, unauthorized users will not be able to access the data.
