To shut down the service, double-click the NDS Services icon in the Windows Control Panel to open the services console and to verify whether ImgServ is running. You can shut down this service at the console. 2.4 Installing Workstation Inventory or the Sybase Database If you have previously installed Workstation Inventory or the Sybase database anywhere on your NDS tree, two options will be displayed if you choose to install either of these two components in the ZfD 3.2 installation program: Upgrade Installation and Full Installation. If you choose to upgrade, the only previously installed components that are actually upgraded from a previous version of ZfD 3 are Sybase and Inventory (if selected). All other ZfD components are fully installed. If you choose a Full Install, the Inventory and Sybase components, along with all other components selected, will be fully installed. 2.4.1 Installing After Extending the Schema If you choose to extend the schema of your NDS tree before you install new ZfD 3.2 files, and then you later choose to install the Sybase database and Workstation Inventory components, the installation program will display the Upgrade and Full Install options (described in 2.4 Installing Workstation Inventory or the Sybase Database above). If you are actually upgrading these components from a prior installation, you can choose the Upgrade option and the components will upgrade. However, if previous versions of these components are not installed, you must choose the Full Install option only. Choosing the Upgrade option will not copy the files you need and may cause problems. 2.4.2 Installing and Configuring the Sybase ODBC Driver ZfD 3.2 includes a Sybase ODBC driver to access the ZfD 3.2 Inventory database. Use this driver to write any custom applications accessing the Inventory database. The driver is available on the ZfD 3.2 Companion CD in the \ODBC directory. Instructions for installing and configuring the driver are included in a Readme in that same directory and are also included in the ZfD 3.2 online Administration documentation (http://www.novell.com/documentation/lg/zdfs/index.html). 2.5 Using JAVA.NLM If you have installed JVM 1.2.2 with JAVA.NLM version dated later than January 4 2001, follow the instructions in the ZfD 3.2 online documentation. For more information, see Using JAVA.NLM in Workstation Inventory in Troubleshooting. This documentation can be found on the ZfD documentation Web site (http://www.novell.com/documentation/lg/zdfs/index.html). 2.6 Installing Preboot Services In order to install Preboot Services, you must have purchased the ZENworks for Desktops 3.2 Pre-Boot Services CD. 2.7 Installing From a Windows NT/2000 Workstation That Has a Pentium 4 Processor If you choose to run the ZENworks for Desktops 3.2 installation program from a Windows NT/2000 workstation that has a Pentium 4 processor, you will encounter an error during the installation, but the installation will proceed. To resolve this problem, download and install the latest version of JRE 1.2.2 or JRE 1.3.1 from the Java 2 Standard Edition download Web site (http://java.sun.com/j2se/downloads.html) on the Windows NT/2000 workstation that has the Pentium 4 processor before you run the ZENworks for Desktops 3.2 SP3 installation program. 3.0 Installation Issues 3.1 Sybase Component Installation Fails on WinNT/2000 Server The Sybase portion of the ZfD 3.2 installation program fails just before it begins copying files if the TCP/IP address is in a closed state in the NDS Services program of the Windows NT/2000 server you are installing to. Use the following steps to correct the problem: 1. From the server desktop, click Start > Settings > Control Panel. 2. Double-click NDS Services > click Transports > TCP > Open. 3. Restart the ZfD 3.2 installation program. 3.2 Installation Fails from Windows 95/98 to Windows NT/2000 Installing ZfD 3.2 to a Windows NT or Windows 2000 Server from a Windows 95 or a Windows 98 workstation is not supported. 3.3 Installation Fails on a NetWare Server The ZfD 3.2 installation program reads its AUTOEXEC.NCF file to find and use the first listed BIND IP Address statement. If the file has two or more BIND IP Address statements and if the first address is incorrect or inactive, the installation will fail. To correct the problem, make sure that the correct IP address is listed first in the AUTOEXEC.NCF file. 3.4 Potential ZENPOL32.DLL Conflict When the Novell Client version 3.3 or newer is installed, an updated version of ZENPOL32.DLL is copied to the user's workstation in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder. If the Novell Application Launcher is subsequently run from the SYS:\PUBLIC directory of a ZENworks 2 server, it copies an older version of ZENPOL32.DLL into the NOVELL\CLIENT32 folder. Because this folder is in the workstation path before WINDOWS\SYSTEM, this older version of ZENPOL32.DLL could be loaded instead of the newer version. This situation could cause problems with the newer version of Workstation Manager installed by the client. This problem is resolved with ZfD 3.2. If you want to fix this problem in the interim, delete the copy of ZENPOL32.DLL from the NOVELL\CLIENT32 folder if it is older than the one in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder. The Application Launcher works with the newer ZENPOL32.DLL from the \SYSTEM directory. 3.5 Installation in an IPX Environment All components of the ZfD 3.2 product including Remote Management are fully supported over pure IP; however, some ZfD 3.2 components may not work over IPX. In the Remote Management component, for example, the IPX address of the target workstation does not register properly in NDS. For this reason, we recommend that you do not install ZfD 3.2 in an IPX environment. 3.6 ZfD 3.2 Interoperability with ZfS2 SP1 If you install ZENworks for Servers 2.0 Support Pack 1 (ZfS2 SP1) over ZfD 3.2, ZfS2 SP1 modifies the Sybase database file, MGMTDBS.NCF, to launch the ZfS2 version of Sybase. To run ZfD 3.2 in this scenario, modify MGMTDBS.NCF to launch Sybase from ZENWORKS\DATABASE. 1. Locate the MGMTDBS.NCF file in the SYS:\SYSTEM directory. 2. Modify the current path to the DBSRV7.NLM file. It should currently be shown as \ \MWSERVER\DB\DBSRV7.NLM In the above path, refers to the directory where ZfS2 is installed. Change the path to: \ZENWORKS\DATABASE \DBSRV7.NLM ZfD 3.2 interoperates with ZfS2 SP1 similarly to ZfD 3 interoperability with ZfS2 SP1. For more information about ZfD 3.2 interoperability with ZfS2 SP1, see the ZfS2 documentation (http://www.novell.com/documentation). 4.0 Other Known Issues 4.1 No Support for DNS-Rooted Trees ZfD 3.2 does not support DNS-rooted trees. 4.2 No Support for Windows ME Platform Novell Client v3.3 for Windows 95/98 is the latest Windows 95/98 client software release available from Novell. It supersedes all previous Windows 95/98 client releases and contains all of the functionality included in previous clients. Although this client in many instances does work on the Windows ME platform, it has not been designed for that platform. The Windows ME platform is considered to be for home use and not business use; therefore, Novell has not fully integrated the Novell Client with the Windows ME platform. Because of its dependence on the Novell Client v3.3, ZfD 3.2 does not support the Windows ME platform. 4.3 Documentation Issues 4.3.1 PDF Files Fail to Open Correctly During Installation The ZfD 3.2 installation program currently has options for viewing documentation in PDF format for the Getting Started guide and the Installation Guide for Preboot Services. These files were compiled with Acrobat 5 to accommodate accessibility requirements specified in Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. (The files can also be read with Acrobat 4.) When one of these options is selected, the installation program launches Internet Explorer, which in turn launches the registered installation of Adobe Acrobat and opens the .PDF file you have selected. If you have Acrobat Reader 4 or higher installed, you can open either the Getting Started guide (ZDFSGSTR.PDF) or the Installation Guide for Preboot Services (VSPQINST.PDF)from the \NOVDOCS\DOC\ENGLISH directory on the Program CD. If your workstation does not have Internet Explorer and Adobe Acrobat installed, you will not be able to see these files. We suggest you install and use the Acrobat 5 reader to view these files. The Acrobat 5 Reader installation file is included on the Companion CD in the \ADOBEREADER directory. 4.3.2 Reading Online Help for ZfD Desktop Applications Requires Internet Explorer To meet the requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Novell is migrating its Windows online help systems from WinHelp to Microsoft HTML Help. HTML Help uses Internet Explorer (version 4.0 or later) as the viewer for HTML Help. This means that every user workstation running ZfD 3.2 Windows applications such as Novell Application Launcher, Novell Application Explorer, Boot Disk Creator, etc. must have Internet Explorer 4.x or later installed to access online help. 4.4 Workstation Management Issues 4.4.1 Group Policies in the Workstation Package Because the Windows desktop files finish loading before Group policy settings are loaded, Some Group policies in the ZfD workstation package may exhibit odd behavior if they are scheduled to run at user login. Specifically, any changes to desktop settings (for example, hide My Network Place, hide all icons on desktop, etc.) will not occur, neither will any programs that you have scheduled to run at user login through use of a login script. If the user logs off and back on, the settings display correctly. To prevent this behavior, do not configure Group policies in the Workstation package to run at user login. Instead, configure them to run at system startup, on a daily basis, or on some other regular schedule. 4.5 Application Management Issues 4.5.1 Automatically Uninstalling Applications Applications running in an offline state will be automatically uninstalled in the following scenario: - Uninstall is enabled on the application - the Manage Applications dialog box is activated This is a known issue and currently does not have a fix or a workaround other than disabling uninstall or the Manage Applications dialog box. 4.6 Workstation Imaging Issues 4.6.1 Upgrading to a Dynamic Disk System on Windows 2000 Workstations Upgrading a Windows 2000 workstation hard disk from a Basic Disk System to a Dynamic Disk System changes the partition table so that it does not does not allow the workstation to boot to the production partition, only to the ZfD Linux partition. No fixes for this issue are included in ZfD 3.2. 4.6.2 Enable and Disable ZEN Partition The Disable ZEN Partition option and the Enable ZEN Partition options from the PXE menu will not work. To use these features, use ZEN Imaging floppies or ZEN Imaging CDs. 4.6.3 Using the Proxy DHCP Service on the Same Machine with the Windows 2000 DHCP Server If you run DHCP and Proxy DHCP on the same machine, you need to add a DHCP tag so that the PXE Client can get its configuration information. Before or after installing Proxy DHCP service component of the Virtual Service Provider, do the following to enable the PXEClient tag of the normal DHCP server: 1. From the Start Menu, click Run > enter netsh as the name of the program to open. 2. At the netsh prompt, type the following commands: dhcp server add optiondef 60 PXEClient STRING 0 PXEClient set optionvalue 60 STRING PXEClient exit 3. Confirm that your settings are correct. a. From the Control Panel, click Administrative Tools > DHCP Manager > right-click the scopes in use > select Scope Options > confirm that option 60 is enabled. or b. At the netsh prompt, type show optionvalue all 4. Reboot the machine. 4.6.4 Upgrading a Workstation with an Existing ZEN Partition If a workstation has a ZEN partition from a prior release of ZENworks, after the first boot the ZEN partition will be updated with a new imaging engine. From then on, warning messages may appear during the ZEN partition boot regarding a "UTIL.S" file missing as well as "modprobe:..." messages. These are harmless and will not affect the way Imaging operates. These messages should not occur if you are upgrading from ZfD 3 SP1. 4.7 Remote Management Issues 4.7.1 Display Adapters Not Supporting the Screen Blanking Feature The display adapters listed below do not support the Screen Blanking feature of Remote Management. The managed workstation screen will not be blanked when these adapters are used. Some of the following adapters may cause the managed workstation to hang or crash. - ATI Rage Pro Turbo AGP - ATI Technologies Inc. 3D Rage Pro AGP 2X - ATI Technologies Inc. 3D Rage Pro Turbo AGP 3X - ATI Technologies Inc. 3D Rage Pro (ATI Graphics Accelerator) - ATI Graphics Pro Turbo PCI (mach 64 GX) - ATI Graphics Pro Turbo PCI (mach 64 VT) - Matrox MGA Ultima/Impression (PCI) - MGA Compatible Display Adapter (Qvision 2000) - Compaq Qvision, 2000, 2000 + (MGA) - Diamond Fire GL 1000 PRO In addition, the Screen Blanking feature will not work on any display adapter that is not 100% VGA-compatible. 4.7.2 Remote Control with a Full-Screen DOS Window If the managed workstation has a full-screen DOS window open, you will not be able to remotely control it. 4.7.3 Screen Savers When a 3-D screen saver activates on the managed workstation, the management console window may display a blank screen or can be very sluggish. 4.7.4 Support for Multiple Monitors Remote control is supported only for the primary monitor in a multiple-monitor machine. If the display drivers or video cards installed on the managed workstation are configured to support multiple monitors, only the primary monitor will be displayed on the management console. The Screen Blanking feature will blank only the primary monitor. 4.7.5 Remote Management With BorderManager ZfD 3.2 Remote Management functionality is not supported with some of the Novell BorderManager components such as the IP-to-IPX Gateway and IP-to-IP Gateway client and NAT installed on managed or management workstation. 4.8 Workstation Inventory Issues 4.8.1 Inventory Database on NFS Inventory database on NFS-mounted volumes on NetWare are not supported. 4.8.2 Scanning Backup Disks is Not Supported on Windows 2000 On Windows 2000, scanning of backup disks (Jaz and Zip drives) is not supported. 4.8.3 Hoax Virus Message Displayed for Oracle files on Windows NT When you copy the InvOracle8iUNIXintel.tar.gz file or InvOracle8iSparcSol.tar.gz file from the "ZfD 3.2 Companion" CD on Windows NT 4.0 with McAfee VirusScan v 4.5 or later installed, the following McAfee Virus Scan warning message might be displayed: "Access to file was denied. Virus Name:" This is a hoax message because there is no virus detected. Press Exclude in the McAfee message dialog box and proceed to copy the file. 5.0 Significant Changes in the ZfD 3.2 Release 5.1 Changes to the Workstation Imaging Component 5.1.1 Automatically Updating the Imaging Proxy A new proxy server shipped with ZfD 3.2 makes it possible for the ZEN partition to automatically update with new files. The update requires two reboots to be completed only if the ZEN partition was installed using the shipping version of ZfD 3. If the ZfD 3 SP1 patch was later applied to the server and the ZEN partition was updated with this patch, the update requires a single reboot. No imaging job is picked up until the update is completed. If the administrator boots using the shipping release of ZfD 3 imaging boot disks or CDs, an imaging job in automatic mode is not picked up from the ZfD 3.2 proxy server. The administrator must create new imaging boot disks or bootable CDs to talk to the proxy server shipped with the ZfD 3.2 release. You do not have to revisit the workstations where the Linux partition is installed. Workstations are automatically updated by the proxy server. 5.1.2 Adding New Linux Drivers New ZfD 3.2 functionality lets you add any kind of Linux drivers and specify any parameters to the loaded driver. The drivers could also be present on the third boot disk, or any other disk. See the ZENworks Imaging Bootdisk Creator online help file for more information. You can also visit the ZENworks Cool Solutions Web site (http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/zenworks/features/a_linux_drivers_zw.html) to download a number of unsupported Linux drivers. 5.2 Changes to Remote Management 5.2.1 Performance Enhancement of Remote Control The performance of Remote Control, especially on a WAN, has been improved with the use of an improved compression. 5.3 Changes to Workstation Inventory 5.3.1 WMI-Compliant Inventory Scanners ZfD 3.2 Workstation Inventory scanners collect hardware data from Microsoft's Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) on the workstations. 5.3.2 Support for Oracle 8i Inventory Database on Linux and Solaris ZfD 3.2 Inventory supports Inventory Database on Oracle 8i for Linux and Solaris. 5.3.3 Exporting Enumerated Inventory Attributes as Strings In the Inventory DBExport, the following enumerated attributes are exported as strings: - CIM.Processor.UpgradeMethod - ZENworks.BIOS.PrimaryBIOS - CIM.IRQ.Availability - CIM.IRQ.TriggerType - CIM.IRQ.Shareable - zenworks.VideoAdapter.VideoMemoryType - CIM.VideoBIOSElement.IsShadowed - Zenworks.ParallelPort.DMASupport - CIM.DMA.BurstMode - CIM.DMA.Availability 5.3.4 Exporting New Inventory Attributes In the Inventory DBExport, the following attributes are exported: - CIM.IRQ.IRQNumber - CIM.IRQ.Availability - CIM.IRQ.TriggerType - CIM.IRQ.Shareable 5.3.5 Scanning New Inventory Items Workstation Inventory supports the following new inventory items: - Current clock speed of processor (CIM.Processor.CurrentClockSpeed) displays the current clock speed of the Processor in MHz. - FreeSize of hard disk drive (Zenworks.LogicalDiskDrive.FreeSize) displays the available space in the specified logical drive of the hard disk in MB. 5.3.6 Sybase Version The ZfD 3.2 installation program installs Sybase version 7.0.0.505 on NetWare servers. 5.4 Accessibility Improvements ZfD 3.2 includes accessibility enhancements in the software and documentation. Changes have been made to ConsoleOne, the Novell Client, ZfD 3.2, and accompanying documentation to make accessibility easier for people with disabilities. If you are unfamiliar with the control or shortcut keys used in Java software, you can find a list of these keys in the Java Look and Feel Design Guidelines documentation (http://java.sun.com/products/jlf/ed2/book/Appendix.A.html) from Sun Microsystems. To navigate in the JavaHelp online help system, use the following keystroke combinations: - Ctrl+Tab = moves focus to the next element (Previous, Next, Print, Page Setup, and text window) on the ConsoleOne Help dialog box - Ctrl+Shift+Tab = moves focus to the previous element on the ConsoleOne Help dialog box - Ctrl+T = moves focus to the next hypertext link within the text window (focus must be on the text window) - Ctrl+Shift+T = moves focus to the previous hypertext link within the text window (focus must be on the text window) - Ctrl+Space = activates the selected link within the text window JavaHelp 1.1 is currently inaccessible via JAWS screen reader software. To access JavaHelp with a screen reader, use the IBM Self-Voicing Kit available from the IBM alphaWorks Java Technology Web site (http://www.alphaworks.ibm.com/tech/svk). 6.0 Documentation Conventions In this documentation, a greater-than symbol (>) is used to separate actions within a step and items in a cross-reference path. 7.0 Legal Notices Novell, Inc. makes no representations or warranties with respect to the contents or use of this documentation, and specifically disclaims any express or implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for any particular purpose.
