B.9 Connecting to VMware Virtual Center

  1. Make sure that the Windows Orchestrator Agent is installed and started on the Windows host running Virtual Center.

  2. Turn on 1.x compatibility by running regedit.exe on the Virtual Center, then navigate to HKLM\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.\VMware VirtualCenter\

  3. Check for a key called CompatibleWith1xWebService. If necessary, create the key and set its value to 1.

  4. Restart Virtual Center or reboot the server.

See the VMware Infrastructure SDK 2.0.1-1.x Compatibility Notes for more detail.

  5. J2RE with version 1.4.2 is installed on the Windows system running VirtualCenter.

The JREs that ship with VirtualCenter and with the Novell Agent are version 1.5. Version 1.4.2_15 can be downloaded from the Sun* Download Center.

  6. On the server where Virtual Center is installed, find the rui.crt certificate.

On Windows, the default location is: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware\VirtualCenter\SSL\rui.crt.

  7. Create a VCenter_Certs directory at the top level by entering mkdir C:\VCenter_Certs\.

  8. Copy rui.crt to C:\VCenter_Certs\.

  9. Run keytool.

The default location is C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter 2.0\jre\bin\keytool.exe.

  10. Enter cd C:\VCenter_Certs\[path]keytool -import -keystore keystore -file rui.crt

  11. Enter a password when prompted.

  12. In Orchestrator Console, edit the vcenter policy by entering the URL, username, and password.

  13. Save the changes.

  14. Discover VM hosts.

  15. Discover VM images.

  16. If the VM images are not listed in the tree, restart the Orchestrator Console.

  17. In the Orchestrator Console, enter the vcenter-client policy to point to: C:\VCenter_Certs\keystore, then save the change.

  18. Drag and drop the vcenter and vcenter_client policies to the server where Virtual Center is running.

  19. Discover VM hosts.

  20. Discover VM images.

  21. If the VM images are not listed in the tree, restart the Orchestrator Console.

NOTE:VM host discovery on the vcenter adapter can fail because VM host discovery with Virtual Center requires JRE 1.4.2 to be installed on the Windows-based VirtualCenter host. The JRE that ships with the Orchestrator Agent and with VMware Virtual Center is JRE 1.5.
