1.2 Self-Encrypting Hard Disks

Self-encrypting hard disks are disks that include a hardware encryption chip.

With self-encrypting disks, the hardware chip handles all encryption so ZENworks Full Disk Encryption does not perform any disk encryption. However, you can use ZENworks Pre-Boot Authentication to enhance the authentication security for the disk. For more information, see Section 2.0, Pre-Boot Authentication.

ZENworks Full Disk Encryption currently supports pre-boot authentication on self-encrypting (FDE.x) hard disks that use TCG Opal 1.0 and 2.0 technology. For more information about disk support, see System Requirements in the ZENworks 11 SP3 Full Disk Encryption Agent Reference.
