Machines Excluded from User Licensing

This panel lets you exclude devices from being covered by the per-user or per-named user license entitlement. If one of the entitlement’s discovered products is installed on an excluded device, the installation does not consume a license.

A common reason for excluding devices is to accommodate MSDN licensed software. MSDN licenses can be used for development and testing but not for production. Because of this restriction, you typically don’t want MSDN installations to consume licenses from a user-based entitlement created to cover production (non-MSDN) installations. Excluding devices with MSDN installations from the entitlement can resolve this issue.

You add devices to the list to exclude them. The following table provides instructions for adding and removing devices:

Add a device

  1. Click Add to display the Search for Device dialog box.

  2. In the Device Type field, select whether you want to search Managed Devices, Inventoried Devices, Managed or Inventoried Devices, ZAM Migrated Devices, or All.

    If you are not sure of the device type, select All.

  3. To limit the search, use the filters to create the search criteria.

    If you don’t create filters, all devices are displayed, up to the maximum display number.

  4. Specify the maximum number of devices you want the search to display.

  5. Select the columns you want displayed in the resulting search dialog box. Control-click to select multiple fields.

  6. Click Search to display a Select Device dialog box that lists the search results.

  7. Select the devices you want to add, then click OK.

 

Remove a device

  1. Select a device.

  2. Click Remove.
