32.3 Preserving Preboot Services Settings During Upgrade

As previously noted in Caution, some of the files used by ZENworks Imaging are always overwritten when the product is reinstalled or upgraded. This is true if you have previously installed ZENworks Preboot Services. If you are upgrading from a legacy PXE server (for example, ZENworks for Desktops 3.2 or 4.0.1, the .ini files (in particular, the dts.ini file, the tftp.ini file, and the pdhcp.ini file) for Preboot Services are overwritten because the format of the files changed in version ZENworks 6.5 Desktop Management and ZENworks 7 Desktop Management. In such cases, you need to reconfigure these .ini files after the upgrade. For this reason it is a good idea to have a backup of the .ini files on hand so that you have a record of the file settings.

Similarly, if you previously installed ZENworks 6.5 Preboot Services in a clustering environment, the upgrade installation program creates several configuration settings in the pdhcp.ini, tftp.ini, and pdhcp.ini files for the virtual server. The same settings are re-created by the upgrade installation program during an upgrade, so it is good practice to make a backup copy of these .ini files to preserve a record of the configuration settings that you can manually transfer to the new .ini files after the upgrade, if necessary.
