If you want to install the Workstation Inventory component of ZENworks 7 Desktop Management on a Linux server, perform the following tasks before the installation:
Ensure that the Samba server is up and running.
If workstations that do not have Novell Client installed send scans to an OES Linux Inventory server, then ensure that the OES server name is same as the DNS name.
If you want LDAP access to use a secure connection between the ZENworks 7 Inventory server and Novell eDirectory, you need to enable a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) during the ZENworks 7 Desktop Management installation.
Before you enable SSL during installation, you must export the Trusted Root Certificate. Use the following steps to export the certificate:
In ConsoleOne, browse the eDirectory tree to find the container of the NCP™ server object for the Linux server where you want to install the ZENworks Inventory Server, right-click the server_name), then click .

tab, click the suboption, then click .The Export a Certificate dialog box is displayed.
Click
to select the default settings.The default path and the filename of the certificate is c:\rootcert.der. You can change the path and the filename of the certificate.

, then click .Copy the certificate to the Linux server (any location) where you will be installing the ZENworks 7 Inventory Server.
Note the location of the certificate on the Linux server because you need to specify the location during the ZENworks 7 Desktop Management Server installation.
