Review Novell Cloud Manager concepts and terminology

Novell Cloud Manager includes functionality and components you need to understand in order to successfully install, configure, maintain, and use the product. Cloud Manager also interacts with other products such as hypervisors, PlateSpin Orchestrate, and directory services.

If you are not already familiar with Novell Cloud Manager concepts and its interaction with these other products, see Introduction to Novell Cloud Manager 1.1.

Virtualize your physical datacenter

If you have not already applied a virtualization infrastructure to your physical datacenter, you need to implement a hypervisor technology. Novell Cloud Manager supports Xen, VMware vSphere (vCenter), and Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisors.

For information abouting virtualizing your datacenter, refer to your hypervisor documentation.

Set up PlateSpin Orchestrate

PlateSpin Orchestratre interacts with your virtualization infrastructure (hypervisor technology) to automate the provisioning, management, and deprovisioning of virtual machines.

For information about installing PlateSpin Orchestrate, see the PlateSpin Orchestrate 2.6 Installation and Configuration Guide.

Install and configure Novell Cloud Manager

Novell Cloud Manager provides the interface through which users request virtual resources. Requests are communicated to PlateSpin Orchestrate which performs the required virtualization operations in conjunction with your hypervisor techonology. .

For information about installing the Novell Cloud Manager server and console, se the Novell Cloud Manager 1.1 Installation Guide.

Build your cloud

Expose yor vitual resources to users as workloads (VMs) and service levels they can consume as business services. Organize users into business groups that determine the workloads and service levels available to them.

For information, see Building a Cloud in the Novell Cloud Manager 1.1 Administration Guide.

Provision a business service

To ensure that all components are installed and configured correctly, you should provision a business service. This not only enables you to test the system but also allows you to become familiar with the provisioning process.

For information, see Provisioning Services in the Cloud in the Novell Cloud Manager 1.1 Administration Guide.
