SOCKS V4 and V5 Gateway Configuration

Novell BorderManager 3.5

SOCKS Client

SOCKS Server

SOCKS V4 Configuration:
1) Enable DNS Proxy or create a filter exception for client DNS resolution.
2) Check the SOCKS V4 and V5 box under the BorderManager Setup > Gateway Tab, highlight, and then click on details. Check the SOCKS V4 User                 Verification box.
3) Set log levels as desired and save changes.
4) Configure the Browser to use Socks -- same place as PROXY configuration using Netscape.

If you want to use Access Control along with SOCKS V4:
You must create rules based on IP addresses unless you run CLNTRUST.EXE. If you run CLNTRUST.EXE you can create rules based on NDS user objects.
NOTE:  DO NOT ENABLE SSO AUTHENTICATION. NDS based rules with SOCKS 4 will not work if SSO is enabled under the Authentication context tab.

SOCKS V5 Configuration:

SOCKS V5 with SSO and NDS Access Control: This will work only with a true SOCKs 5.0 Client.

To configure SOCKS V5 in its present state check the SSO box only. Apply Access Control Rules based on IP Addresses or ANY. Again, Access control based on NDS users/passwords is not presently working.

All other configurations (SSL, etc.) for SOCKS V5 require a "socksified third-party client."
