Novell DirXML 1.1

Novell eDirectory 8.6 for All Platforms

Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

The Lotus Notes driver is running but does not process publisher events.

DirXML Java trace, dstrace or remote loader screen displays the following error:

DRIVERNAME: NotesPublicationShim: Error opening novell\ndsrep.nsf.   ID = 4043.  Message: Database open failed

Administrator logs off from the server console.

An instance of NDSREP monitors the Notes system for updates and writes them to a INSTANCENAME.nsf file (ndsrep.nsf is the default). The Notes driver shim accesses this nsf file via a client connection through the Notes Java API, reads the events and processes them.

When a user performs a logoff from the NT server console, the user's access token to system resources such as the file system is cleared. This also affects access of the Notes DirXML shim to the nsf file, resulting in the error. Lotus reports that this is a known issue.

This condition may be prevented by an NT server configuration change. On the server hosting Notes, add the system environment variable of NOTESNTSERVICE with a value of 1. A reboot of the NT server is required for the change to take affect. This will prevent the loss of rights to the nsf file from occurring upon a user logoff.
